Honey Delight/Uncle Corkys

I thought that some of you that acquired this fig want want to read this small bit of history.  It is a sign from Walter Andersons Nursery.  They own the mother tree here in San Diego and have propagated it.

Must be a new sign. Had not seen it before. I OCRed your pix and will add it to the Figs 4 Fun info. Thanx.

Anyone have this fig?   How is the taste?

One of the things I'm really enjoying while learning about figs are all the quaint local stories and names attached to so many of them.

Thanks for another one. :)

My mom just got one of these.  The salesperson at Walter Andersen said people rave over the taste but was wondering if there were any other opinions.

Figfinatic,

I have one but only got one or two figs from it last year.  The fruit was good to very good and it was a young tree.  So if all goes well it should live up to it's reputation as the tree gets stronger.   The pic is of one of the few fruits I got last summer.

Hi, I went to Walter Andersen in Poway in early September and they had a bunch of huge 5 gallon trees begging to get out of their pots. Their was only one fig close to being ripe on all of them, of course I ate it, it definitely was not as ripe as it could have been but it was a nice tasting fig. What impressed me was the texture of the skin, tough, thin and chewy, but in a pleasant way, not thick and rubbery like a Kadota can be.

You still have my Alma, right?  Now I might need this one too!  We have been crazy busy looking at property, and we are pretty much priced out of the market in Fallbrook, so looking like Valley Center close to Lake Wolford.

What a neat fig!  Thanks for sharing!!

Suzi

Yeah good fig. Got a couple ripe ones and very good. Ants stole the rest.

This is my Honey delight-- I got the cuttings from Jon on February this year--now became younger tree,,2 metres up high--
Starting fruit on September,,not ripe untill now :)

I noticed the sign mentions that the tree is trade marked. Does this cause any constraints on sharing cuttings? If there are no limitations on trading cuttings of the Honey Delight fig, I should have some available for trade later this fall.
-James

When the Nursery didn't have trees, they gave me cuttings.

So I am ok to share cuttings?

Here's my take: A trademark is different from a patent or a copyright. It is an exclusive right to use a symbol or name. There is no restriction on product or process. However, the author of the sign may not be conveying the restriction correctly, and regardless, it appears to be an important source of income or pride for the Anderson family, and so we should consider honoring regardless of the legalities.
