honey figs taste

Do any of the honey figs actually taste like honey? If so which is the best/closest to honey?
Thanks

Actually yea that is an interesting question I want to know as well

The only "honey" tasting figs I've tried so far are Lattarulla EL, Pete’s Honey and Alma. They tasted like a junk food sweet flavored with honey; some a little more sweet, most less sweet and watered down but still good. Marseilles EL, Celeste Improved and Hollier also had sort of a diluted sweet taste which was very similar, but it would be hard for me to say if they were more honey or sugar tasting. LSU Purple was definitely sugar to caramel tasting. I still am waiting for fruit from Qalaat Al Maadiq and Barada, which are supposed to be in the Honey/Sugar category.

Thank you. The (Junk food) reference laves me a little perplexed however. When you say junk food do you mean like a twinkie or any particular junk food? Sorry But I have not had a chance to try any (honey figs) yet and I am trying to figure out which I might like best before I order a tree / cuttings for my garden.
Thanks

Atreano is a nice honey fig.  Dalmatie also tastes like honey to me, although it has a red center.  It is the sweetest fig I've ever had.

Hi, Frank nice to hear from you. Are you growing the Dalmatie, could you tell me how well this variety grows for you? I am trying to decide on at least one "honey" type for my collection.
Thanks Randall

Here are some of the ones I remember that taste like honey:

Alma
Peter's Honey
Excel
Kadota
Italian Honey, aka Latturula
Votata
La Goccia d'Oro

Thank you. Which would you say had the strongest or was closest to real honey in taste overall?

These ones have a honey like flavor.  I like the taste of Peter's Honey the best, followed by Alma, Excel and then Kadota.

1. Peter's Honey
2. Alma
3. Excel
4. Kadota

I have a few Italian honey figs ripening so will see how those are soon.

Hi Randall,

This was my first year growing Dalmatie.  It's in a 5 gallon SIP and grew pretty well this year.  It's a young 2 year old tree and I was able to taste about 10 figs from it.  I think you'll get more of a honey flavor from the ones mentioned above, but Dalmatie was like straight sugar!

Thank you all for your answers and help.

I'd say....

1. Peter's Honey
2. Excel
3. Kadotal
4. Alma
5. Banana

Everybody's taste is different. Alma has a rich flavor. But Peter's Honey is VERY hard to beat.
