Hope my figs survive in a portable greenhouse

I went to Home Depot today planning on looking at patio heaters to keep the figs from freezing tonight when I  saw a portable 6x8 greenhouse for $179.00. I decided to buy it and assembled it in 30 min. I loaded it with all the figs on my patio and put a indoor/outdoor space heater in it. Hope it is enough to keep them from freezing. Hope my figs don't suffer from my laziness.

Good Luck with the Greenhouse. That price seemed pretty high. Keep the receipt and return after this freeze. I returned some fig trees that I bought bare root after about 2 months from Lowes. Kept the receipt...so just in case.

Jason,

It should work fine as long as the heater is large enough. However, my first greenhouse was made of the same material. It was supposed to be durable. Did not make it thru the summer. Yours looks easy to take down. I'm sure you will store it after freezing weather passes. Good luck!

Jason,
Looks good, they will be much happier than being outside.
Let us know how it goes if you stick a high low thermometer in there.
Good luck.
Eric

Jason how is that setup anchored to the floor so it does not blow away ?

I went to check on the figs this morning and they are perfect. It was pretty toasty in there. I might have not needed the heater which was small and doesn't work well to begin with.

I am planning on getting a real greenhouse in the fall but for the money this isn't bad for now.

@Dieseler- No anchors yet. I just got it yesterday for the hard freeze. I wedged my heavy 25 gallon pots in each corner and it didnt move even with 35 mph wind. It was also pretty sturdy for a cheapo greenhouse. It has a metal frame that I plant to screw into some 4x4 posts made into a rectangular frame.

@Remp- I am going today to buy wood for the frame and also a thermometer to see the temperature difference.

@go4broek- It actually feels pretty durable. I am going to use it this season till I get my big greenhouse.

@armando93223- I think it is worth it. It's actually better than I thought it would be.

Jason,

I have the same GH . My wife bought it for me 2 years ago at the end of the season . got a good deal on it $99.00  . Back in Jan ,we had a wicked snow storm here in the NW . I was without power for 5 days. I had just started my 8 prized seeds of various 'Atlantic Giant' Pumpkins . I was forced to put them in the mini GH . The 3 ft. of snow acted as insulation. it was 17* outside and it was just above freezing 33* in the GH. It was well worth the $  It has extended my Tomato and Pepper  season into December . At the moment I have most of last years cuttings of Blueberry, Red & Black currents, Mock Orange, Lilac, Firethorn and Bottlebrush . Outside temp 45* inside temp 82* with 1 widow flap rolled up .  I live in a high wind area , I place 5 gallon buckets filled with soil  on the flaps at the bottom to keep it from blowing over when we have 60+MPH  gusts.

That's a great deal dawg. "wicked", do you live somewhere in New England? I only hear my relatives outside of Boston, MA say that.
