Horizontal rooting, newbie

I just wanted to share this with others. I decided to try a little-discussed rooting method i read about in a forum, horizontal rooting.

Being new, i figured I'd screw up and i hoped to have a50% success rate.
I got cuttings over the wintry from various sources, trades, purchases, sase. My success was directly tied to the thickness of the cuttings. Almost none of the thinner guys rooted.
The cuttings that were pencil sized and smaller were duds. I don't know if it's the method or the cuttings.
ALL the others rooted. Most got roots and leaves.
I did an experimental run in the winter w coir, perlite and compost. repeated in a larger scale this spring.
I used asterlite container. Punched drainage and vent holes. Made mixture moist...not soggy. Laid my sticks in, cover with mixture, closed container and put them next to my boiler for extra warmth. That room hovers around 80,always.
3-4 weeks later, they have varying amounts of roots from a few one cm,to 20+ at 6+cm.
The smaller ones rotted and i found tiny maggots on them.
This was easy. did not require much attention. Gave better success than i expected.
I can't wait for my figs!

Photos were too big to post. Can email upon request. Exccuse typos. Sleepy!

This is a 2 inch thick lsu black.

The skinny ones work too.  These were some of the first I rooted to get a little confidence with the process.
Skinny Fig Cuttings.jpg
One skinny cutting in a pot looked kind of sad, but the three together look interesting and takes up less space.  Of course I have no idea how this will turn out in the long run.

Wish you good luck too.

Very impressive. It will really continue to taje off. More roots faster and spread out. More nodes, will pop up. How many nodes did it have?

What variety was this one

These were cuttings from a friend who doesn't know the name of the fig.  I plan on taking pictures from her plant and actual figs when they mature and hopefully someone here can help us identify it.  All three were tip cuttings with 5-7 nodes on them.
