Lovely!

Very nice Dennis.

Oh yea!  I would overindulge big time!

Hey Frank, I use to be convinced both Smith and Tx BA-1 were the same. Tx BA-1 is much larger greener and flat whereas Smith is bell shaped and medium size. Both are excellent tasting. Both are not hardy at all!

And here's the money shot on Tx Ba-1

Noted, Dennis.  Thanks for the great pics and info!

Great spread!  So how long did it take for your Pastilliere to produce figs for you?

Smith was my only complete die to the ground here over its first winter, it was very robust before winter though, this year back from the dead, not so much, one of my slowest.  Interesting about TX Ba-1, also crazy name.

Thank you for posting, your observations are valuable.

Delicious display of figs!  Enjoy!

Don, mine took 2 years before it started keeping its figs. It's the juiciest fig I've eaten.

Tx BA-1 is a very pretty fig compared to Smith. My TX-BA1 figs look just like a green Black Maderia with purple strips. Neither are hardy but both are very prolific.

Nice collection of figs.

Yeah Alan, Dominick's Fig is one fast growing fig tree.  I have one growing in pot.  One of my best tasting figs is Bisirri!  Man I love the flavor and taste of it.  I did not take a photo though.

Dennis great stuff
cant wait to see more pictures of your varieties

That is one heck of a spread!! Is the TX ba-1 as rich and complex as smith?

Nice Pictures Dennis.

Ryan to me it is richer. Smith has a tangier taste though . My tree was almost killed 2 yrs ago but last year I pulled it out of its whiskey barrel and placed it in a statement and it's doing 10x better. This winter all Smith and Tx BA-1 will be winterized indoors. It's a beautiful fig.

This a nice and rich collection of figs
Congratulations

Hi Dennis,
Any updates on La Gocchia D'Oro? I think I will finally get a chance to try some from my tree this year. So far it has not being productive, but maybe its because its relatively young.

  Thanks,
   Peter

Thanks Francisco. Peter, its one of my largest trees not hit by the ambrosia beetle! The figs are ripening now! I ate one this morning. The figs taste like a mouth full of honey!!!! I just hope the squirrels don't find it. I got it semi protected.

Gorgeous pictures! Thanks for sharing them.

You said Noire de Caromb was one of the best; Tx BA-1 and Smith were excellent; and La Gocchia D’Oro had a strong honey taste. Did any of the other figs stand out taste-wise? Were there some that disappointed you with their flavor?

Tacoma Violet, Unk Black fig from Spain, Longue d'Aout, NdC, Murican, had outstanding taste. None disappointed me. I have a hard time letting my fig stay on the tree b/c ants or birds. Ants are eating the figs through the bag. When figs are left on the tree to wrinkle, they are super fantastic!
Black Jack and Tx Blue Giant had to be picked at the right time or they would not be good .

Wow, what a great tip Alan. Thank you!

Thanks Dennis. It's so great to hear how figs taste as well as how they look.
For ants, have you tried a band of aluminum foil on the main trunk with Vaseline smeared on it? I saw that on YouTube. If you put the Vaseline directly on the tree, it girdles and kills the tree, but if you put it on a band of aluminum foil, it's supposed to work to keep ants off. I haven't tried it yet, but it looked like it would work.
