The wife and I just got back from vacationing in Hilton Head Island. I had several figs trying to ripen after a cool front. We were in the 90s so before I left I covered a few figs. We were gone 4 days and I soaked my trees good. It did not rain at all while away and to my surprise these babies and a bucket of Celeste, Black Celeste, Strawberry, Black Italian, Longe d'Aout, LSU Purple, Improved Celeste, White Texas Everbearing, and Don Fortiss were ripe!
Here is one perfectly ripe large black fig! Black Italian! It's the best black fig this year! But hang on, in a few days Black Ischia and Fico Preto are ripening now too.
Salem White
This fig was on its last legs for me. The past 3 years, the fig have soured, but not this year! Now, I see what others are talking about with this fig! Here are 2 figs that were superb!!!! This fig has to be picked when they turn light green. They don't droop. They don't get marshmallow soft. They just turn colors. We've had 90 degree weather the past 5 days and no rain and these figs ripen. Yeap, it's a keeper! Glad I got 2 large trees!
Black Celeste
Picked several of these today. The birds got some. I picked a bowl full, washed and capped them. Came back in the house and half were gone! Wife and son were eating faster than I could pick!
Here is Longue D'Aout!
Both were covered with organza bags and today they were perfectly ripe!!!! And oh my gosh!!! They were spectacular!
HOW BOUT THOSE FIGS!!!!!!
