Houston fig nurseries

Anyone know of any nurseries in the Houston area that sells fig trees that are true to their names. I have a friend in the area that would rather buy some larger trees than are usually shipped.

ISON'S though not in Houston, sells larger, "Instant Orchard"-size trees.  Georgia is not that far from Texas.

Gene,

Though it may be a little drive but Fannicks Nursery in San Antonio might have some.
I purchased my Jujube trees from there and they with roughly 8' tall.

Maas Nursery (Seabrook, TX) - They don't have a huge selection, but this is one of the better/cooler nurseries I've been to. There is a two (plus) story tall Celeste tree on the premises which I a source of some of there trees. The rest is brought in from wholesalers.

RCW Nursery (NW Houston) - For those who remember hlyell, he asked me to pick up several trees he bought from here and ship them to him. They had a nice selection of decent size trees sourced from Brazos Citrus Nursery.

Urban Harvest (01.19.2013) - A once per year sale benefitting a nonprofit, community garden / educational organization. The last time I went, they had a line which snaked around the entire sale then ended at the check out. When the line got to what you wanted, you grabbed it (if there still were some) and drag it through the rest of the sale. The sale this year is at a different location than when I went so things may be different. Get there early for best selection. Some trees are in containers while others are bare rooted, field grown trees.

Harris County Master Gardners (01.26.2013) - It is like the Urban Harvest sale (it would not surprise me if the same nursery supplied both), except for it is more of a free for all. Also, there are lectures on various gardening related topics. Yaddayadda once mentioned a Ft Bend County MG sale, but I have no info on this.

What? I am from San Antonio, TX (before I moved to Idaho). I dicovered a fig tree outside of San Antonio that produces figs, its in Landa Park near the front entrance next to the river. Never ate one because it was not ripe, looked pretty delicious.

-that's all... I wanted to share. You mentioned San Antonio and it caught my attention. I have been thinking about that tree all year. I dubb thee "Landa" Fig- lol

gene, don't know if you've found your fig trees yet, but Houston Plant and Garden World on FM 1960 & I-45 has bunches of them.  Suggest the Brown Turkey Fig.

Your friend might try Caldwell's Nursery in Rosenburg. I haven't bought a fig tree from them, but they had a nice selection when I was there. I bought some very nice pear and persimmon trees from them and have been very happy with them. A very nice nursery and nice people too.

Caldwell's is the right place in the Houston area to look for figs.  True to type and reasonably priced.  Good people, if you call, they will check the inventory at that moment to prevent wasted trips.
