How Deep Do You Plant A 7 Feet Fig Tree In Ground?

How deep should a 7 feet tree should go?
And how wide should the hole be around the roots?

I would have the top of the root ball 2 to 3 inches lower than ground level .
The hole I would make with 2 to 3 inch clearance all around then pack in some good soil
and water well . A couple inches of mulch on top would be good to keep moist .

I agree with John...just had to do such a thing last Saturday...    :)

Crap, my friend put the root ball 2 feet under lol, will that be a problem?

I am in connecticut I planted my fig tree about 10" down from the top of the root ball my thinking was to make the root mass bigger than normal to make the tree as strong as possible and have the roots down deeper to have a little more insulation from the cold I planted it last year and it is doing fine with minimal protection , just like you would do with a tomato plant not for the cold of course but to have a stronger plant

Here's a post that we talked about this

My friend planted it 3 years ago and is doing fine.

I guess you create more roots this way also?

Depends on your soil.  I've seen on this site that people with heavy clay soils tend to plant shallow to prevent "wet" roots.  The clay will act as a pot and if you dig a deep hole, water can not drain well.

When in doubt... Plant it DEEP 2.5- 3ft depth X 3feet. A shovel full of dolmolite lime, manure, soil, and another full shovel of dolmolite Lime and mulch

I take my water hose on very low, leave it at soil level, for 10min. That's how I do it for ALL my ground trees.

Too deep is ok.  I'd take the shovel and open up large cracks in the sides and bottom of the hole and stuff them with lots of organic material.  That will attract earthworms and they'll help you out.  Plus it gives the roots a way to penetrate into clay.
