How did I miss this?

I live a few miles away from this Italian restaurant in town, and today we had lunch there.  I've been to this place several times, but never noticed the gold mine they had in the back.  LOTS of fig trees, practically surrounding the building.  I asked one of the managers about it and he says they've been there over 30 years.  They're all the same variety and only described it as turning a dark red when ripe.  He'd only been there a few years so he didn't know too much about them.  He invited me to grab some cuttings, so I took 8 cuttings worth.  Can't wait for those trees to produce this year so I can see what the guts look like.  Notice how thick the trunks are.

Score!

OMG. How did you miss this? Lucky! What is the place called? Hubby is over at D.C training, maybe he can cross over there and beg one cutting for me.

Congrats,
Jennifer

Congratulations!  Good score!

That is beautiful Frank Great find. If you could please grab some cuttings and share in the future. Doesn't matter what the variety is I'll take it. Especially the tree being next to our Savior. I love it.

Good discovery Frank. The trees probably benefit from all the stone and blacktop around them. Find out if they have a breba crop too.
Don't post the address or the trees will be pruned to the ground! LOL

Wow!  What a find, Frank!  I'm with Rob, I'd be in line for a cutting or two if you can spare, I just love having unknown figs with an Italian heritage.  Awesome, my gosh that's a LOT of very lovely fig trees!!

Great find!

Looking at your profile, you are in VA.
Not sure how cold it gets there?

As it has been said many times before; it would be nice for everyone
to edit their profile and  under "location"; indicate both
the 'local state and USDA zone'.
That way it gives everyone a quick hardiness indication along with each post.

Hey FF where are you in Virginia with that much snow in the parking lot?
My tenants are from Virginia.
Awesome find those trees look nice and healthy.

Thanks everyone.  Next time I eat there, I'll see if I can get the full history on the tree.  Bunch of true blooded Italians working there so you know there's a good story!
I'll see if they're willing to share more cuttings.  I'd love to share this with everyone, if given the opportunity.

George,

I've had Virginia zone 7a in my signature since I first joined.  If that what you're referring to?  Let me know if I've misunderstood.

Crazy cold this week but climbing back to the 40s next week.

Sweet.

FF,
Ooops! Sorry, my mistake...

Nice find Frank!

Congrats FF. Next time when you return to this restaurant, take some suckers. An
instant tree.

I just added a panoramic picture I missed earlier.  The left wall is the restaurant.  It is lined with fig tree too.

That's real nice for you Frank....you shared with everyone last week....now it's your turn to reap the rewards....hope every one of those cuttings roots for you....Good luck.

Thanks Vince!  I feel VERY blessed by everyone who's traded with me.  Funny how some sticks can mean so much to us.  I intend to spread the love in the future.

Wow, are those figs or maple trees ready to be tapped for syrup!! haha, Nice find. Those trees are pretty good size!! Hope you can find out more info on them.

Looks like an oven to the left of the car in the panoramic picture. Is that right? or is it something else? I might need my eyes checked.

Hope you got some suckers...look like some nice ones there...those are like 'instant trees.

Good for you Frank!!I hope they grow well for you!

Nice find Frank.
Since they seem to need attention those trees (lots of suckers), I would offer to give it to them at no charge! LOL
I would like to be in line for a future cutting.
