How do I clean cuttings

I've seen people talking about cleaning cuttings before trying to root them. What do I use?

Take a brush and with soap vigorously brush the cutting, then dunk them in a hydrogen peroxide solution, after that wax the ends with beeswax or any other kind of wax and then root them when ever you please.

LOL, pretty much. Don't scrape the duds off PLEASE, not too vigorously. I use nylon type dish washing sponge and lots of finger action ;)
No pond intended, LOL  i think i'm getting drunk with this (Maison Champy) bottle. Rain is still gentle and steady... good!

Here's what I do:

After I wash new cuttings in soapy water and dry them a bit, I spray them with Sevin to kill any insect eggs, then wrap them up in a damp paper towel and bag them.  The next day I wash them with soapy water again to get rid of the Sevin, then douse with a bleach solution to help prevent mold.  After an hour or so I then wash off the bleach solution with soapy water, rinse, wrap them up in fresh damp paper towels, bag 'em, and wait for the magic.

i've never bothered to clean cuttings.  Never had a problem with mold or anything while rooting in sp moss.  But maybe it's whoever the cuttings came from that cleaned them good.. lol

I also do not bother cleaning cuttings nor sealing them. I will only gently rinse/wipe a cutting in weak bleach if it comes to me with a bit of mold showing. The less you 'work' them, the fewer abrasions for fungi/bacteria to enter and gain a foothold.

Less is more.

yes James, most people clean all their cuttings before shipping, as a curtesy. It;s a good habit.
I, personally, use all organic approach, nothing chemical to my cuttings or my food! no bleach, no pesticides and no chem fungicides, I'll stick to Cinnamon tea, worked great. I ran an experiment with it with 15+ cuttings and NON grew mold, fungus or mildew. you can go read the thread " anyone tried this?" Anyone tried this?

toothbrush and antibacterial soap. used to soak them in bleach solution, doesn't seem to make any difference. you would be amazed how much stuff comes off the cuttings. i have to wash the toothbrush inbetween brushing the cuttings.

I'm sure some people may clean cuttings before shipping, but I strongly doubt most people do. It's certainly nothing I've seen written about here before. Unless there was actual soil on them, I would strongly prefer cuttings coming to me not be cleaned first, and do not consider it a 'good habit' at all. People should be able to treat cuttings the way they want and not have someone decide for them.

I once did receive some cuttings someone had actually soaked in water before sending - needless to say, most of them did not do very well though I was able to root the variety I really wanted and a couple others from that trade.

I think cleaning cuttings for storage is an excellent habit, specially when it's done Organically. I not only clean them but treat them with Cinnamon tea and dip both ends in Paraffin before storing them in Zip-Locks.
Gina, why are you agains it, any particular reason?
