How do I post pictures?

I've been able to email the pictures from my phone to the computer. But when I try to post them it says they have to many pixies or something. I have a photo program but it says I have to buy a more advanced package to be able to reduce the size of the pictures. I can crop but when I do that and try to post I'm told I don't have permission. What do I need a note from my mother? I read on one of the threads something about creating a url and linking to that, or something. It was probably quantum. Anyway, it didn't go into quite enough detail for me to be able to follow it.

Aren't computers suppose to simplify your life?  Ain't happened yet!

Sign up at Photobucket (free), upload the pictures  and link the url when posting. Works great and pictures appear large. There are other services but Photobucket is adequate.

I know how to do that in photoshop, also in outlook when I email a picture it gives me the option to reduce the size... if you have hotmail you can email a smaller version to yourself and download and repost...otherwise you need a program that allows you to reduce the picture for web use... I am sure there are free ones out there.. I have gotten that message sometimes on here and I just saved the note I was typing went back in it using the edit and then it let me post..

When you email a photo to yourself be sure to choose the small size.  Not all phones are equal, but my android gives me that choice.  Even 30% is too big!  Most computers have some kind of paint program or photo editing program installed on them.  I'm like Gloria.  I use photoshop.  Try saving for web.  Sometimes that reduces the size too.

Forgot to put my phone on charge last night so now I have to wait to try anything.

Install photoeditor7 or Gimp - it is free . Play a bit with the size - I type in 1200*800 - and it is ok .
You can even add your name in a corner of the photo to avoid someone using the photo without permission by mistake :) .

first, you have to stare at the screen very hard. then with commanding voice, say "let there be pictures!".

if that doesn't work, try using search function. i think we had few threads on how to post pictures.

I tried the "let there be pictures" idea first, it seemed the simplest. Next I searched the phone, but couldn't find anything to let me adjust either picture or pixel size. It's the software that came with the computer that won't let me downsize without paying. Tonight, or tomorrow when its raining, I'll download one of the free programs mentioned and try that. I have seen comments on posting pictures in several threads as I've been looking back over the site but none of them worked for me. I haven't had much luck with the site search. There's a way to Google the site that seems to work better, but still, I had a choice of whether to ask Google or crowd source it with real live people. That's what forums are all about, finding out from people who have real world experience with what you're doing. So I posted my question and some very nice people gave me some very specific answers on free software that should work.  Thanks guys!

Google floods you with information then it takes time to sort through it and figure out what, if any, of it is what you need. Google or garden? How do I prefer to spend my time? While I was waiting for answers to my post I turned a kiddy pool into a SIP with a sunshade and moved my fig cuttings outdoors. Today I'm going to be harvesting manure from a neighbors barn, still beats Googleing.

when you click on the "reply" box on the bottom of the post, it will have few options on the top. if you move your mouse point over them.. one of them will say "Insert Photo". you just click on it and follow the instructions. problem is, i don't think this works on the phone. i tried to post a pix using phone few days ago, and it didn't give me the options. but on the desktop/laptop, this seems to work fine. you want your pix to be not too big, but not too small. 640x480 is a good size.

Still not working, it's giving me "unsupported file type". The phone is sending it as a zipped file and getting it unzipped seems to be the problem. I'll work on it tonight.

Okay! I looked at photoshop, photoeditor, gimp, and others of the type. They were all huge steaming piles of bells and whistles. If I want to mess up a picture I'll use a crayon. My computer is old and slow. I don't need to be cluttering it up with a bunch of stuff that I'll never use. Photo Bucket looked like the best bet. I signed up but couldn't get it to work either. When I went through the troubleshooting list it looked like I had ALL of the problems. I didn't bother to go through the list and check every point, but near as I could tell, neither my computer or it's software will support these new programs.

One weird thing was that I tried emailing directly from my phone to photobucket and it wouldn't take that either. It seems like that should have worked, it's not that old a phone. But, a full size keyboard is bad enough, I'm sure not going to write from my phone, so I'd still have to transfer them through the computer.

I've wasted enough time on it. I just won't be posting pictures. I'm running XP and they're pulling support for it so I'm going to have to make some changes sometime soon. Windows has gone downhill ever since XP so I'm going to uninstall it and go to Linux, like I should have done years ago. Maybe when I jump through those hoops I'll be able to get something to work.

Greysmith,
If you are using Windows 7 you should have Microsoft Paint. If the pictures are on your computer open them with Paint and use the Resize function, select Percentage  and try 30% (to start), then Save as with a new file name, it also has to have a standard picture format (extension) to be recognized by the forum software, if it opens in Paint it will be fine... The Forum software doesn't allow upload of pictures larger than 1 MB that's why resizing is necessary. I use Paint to resize my pictures and usually try to keep my picture below 640x480 for easier viewing on the forum.
Good Luck.

<edit> These instructions are applicable to Windows 7 only .... the Windows XP instructions are posted below.
XP version of Paint has different commands...
for Paint XP, go to Image, then Stretch/Skew, then to Stretch type  30% in Horizontal and 30% in Vertical (they both have to be the same %), then Save As a new name...

Greysmith i have old computer with free tiny program from microsoft that resizes pictures downloaded from digital
camera to harddrive with right click of mouse and does it in seconds.
My computer also old from 2002 running Windows 98XP i then put pics on disk each season and delete from hardrive.

Tried the old phone and personally found it to be a hassle but others here use phone camera a lot it seems and sure more will chime in.

Maybe I am not understanding the problem, but it sounds like the problem is the phone software that zips the photo file?

If you mail the pic to yourself and look at it on your computer, or upload it from your phone to your computer, can you open and see the picture?

There are some free Zip file programs too that will work on XP, if you just need to be able to unzip the program on your comp.  As said above, MS Paint should work to view it

If MS Paint is on the computer I can't find it. I can email from the phone to the computer and it will open. It opens in Jasc Paintshop, apparently as a jpg, which I can send on as is, but, it won't let me reduce it, and if I crop and save, it won't let me export it.

It's a Dell computer (I'll never own another one). I think this is a Dell program. They sell the computer as having a bunch of software on it but what you get is a short term trial, then most of the features go away and you have to pay to get them back.

You should be able to unzip the file.  Usually a file gets zipped when there are more than one photos in it.  Are you sending a bunch of photos, or one at a time?  I send mine one at a time.  What kind of smart phone do you have?  I have a Samsung 3 Android.  When I hit send, a choose size menu comes up and I choose small.  Then I put in my email, and a subject.  Click send.  Done.  Then I "Save to computer."  It will be in Downloads.  I find it in there, and open it with photoshop.  Check your PM's.

Greysmith,
Paint can be found in the Accessories folder on the All Programs menu its a default Windows program and has always been included with Microsoft Windows.

If it was not installed originally, from the Start menu go to the Control Panel, Then Add or Remove Programs then Add/Remove Windows Components, make sure Accessories and Utilities box is checked. It will install when Next is selected.

That's the extent of my Knowledge... : )
Good Luck.

What Pete said :)
Was just about to post same info. Paint is on every Windows comp since at least 3.0.

Okay! I found it! Help is no help! I went to image then attributes and typed in the size, like it said, and it gave me a that size piece of the picture (the upper left corner). I tried the other option, but couldn't find the square resize handles. All I could find was a crosshair that selected a box in the picture. This is getting very frustrating.

Greysmith,
Sorry, your XP version of Paint has different commands.
for Paint XP, go to Image, then Stretch/Skew, then to Stretch type  30% in Horizontal and 30% in Vertical (they both have to be the same %), then Save As a new name...

my email is buddawithbeer@gmail.com. send me your pix. i'll post it for you and list the steps i took. it will be sometime over the weekend. i need to get over the hangover in next few days.

Hi greysmith,
I have Xp on a dell as well but with 7remix :) .
Why couldn't you install "photofiltre 7" ? I have it ...
In paint, you are in the wrong option. Go to menu image option "stretch/shrink " shortcut is "ctrl+W" .
Then give it 25 twice - for horizontal and vertical- and press ok, and voilĂ  ! If image is still too big do one more time to the new resized pic until the result is small enough but not too much, some do wear glasses here :) . Don't send stamp sized pics :)

How would I do this on a Mac?

Bingo! The one I had been trying to resize had been sent over in a bunch, so I sent a single over then tried the stretch/skew option, and it seemed to work. Why didn't Help have that? It's easier to do a percent than figure percent of a pixel count.

Isn't it wonderful how computers simplify your life?

Anyway, here's the test. Is there a photo attached to this post?
