How do I treat stripped bark?

A child broke a large branch off my three year old Fig and it stripped the bark a bit.  Does anyone know how to treat the wound on the main branch?

Is the stripped bark on a remnant of the branch or on the main trunk? How big (diameter) is the branch or trunk, and how large is the damaged area?

I usually cover all damaged areas with "tree seal" to prevent and desication(extreme dryness of the unprotected wood)...this also keeps out any insects that might gnaw into the soft, interior layers of the tree...there are many sealing products available on line, and at the local nursery.

depending on the nature of the injury, using a bark graft may promote more rapid healing of the wound.  Pics?

That sounds really bad cej, I hope you didn't forget to "treat" the child as well! ;-)

I'd seal it and forget it.  If the branch is alive, it will sprout new branches.  Patience!  That child just pruned your tree for you!  Bless the child!
