How do you eat your figs?

I have always enjoyed mine right off the tree (when possible), and I have ALWAYS eaten the skin like and apple.  Over the years I have met people who do NOT eat the skin!  I have always thought that was strange since the skin is fairly thin and most figs are fairly small, so by not eating the skin your wasting a lot of the fruit!

I have purchased fig preserves in the past, quite frankly they didn't impress me by being more sweet with little fig flavor.  I'm sure home made are much better.

I have never had them any other way that I could recall.  A guest where I work told me she likes them with balsamic vinegar, sounds interesting.

How do you like your figs!

I hold it by the stem that comes with the fruit and eat the rest whole, skin and all, making sure I don't bite my fingers. I prefer the ones (size) that make a couple of good bites and still figgy in taste.

I'm with Akram. Although we are usually splitting gigs amongst many, so they often get quartered so we can all sample the differences between.

With fingers , off the tree and with much pleasure!

In the raw, fig syrup, fig preserves, fig newtons, fig bread pudding, fig bread, dried figs, stewed figs, figs ala mode, fig poppers, fig bundt cake, fig cookies, fig sweet rolls, figs halved with goat cheese w/bacon, Fig paste on celery, fig jam, fig reesee's, fig granola, in cereals, on waffles, fig stuffed pork loin, fig stuffed chicken breasts, fig stuffed flank steak, fig smoothies, just to name a few!!

Oh yeah, fig cheeseballs, or dip, or spread, fig chutney/relish, BBQ sauce.  The savory part is generally lost due to the sweetness being the most widely used.

Right off the tree.  I usually break off the stem then tear the fig in half so I can see the inside first before eating it.  I like to make sure there are none of those tiny ants in there before I eat the fig.  I've never tried cooking with figs because they taste so good just as they are.  I always eat it skin and all, even on the varieties with a tough skin.  It doesn't bother me too much.

Right off the tree is by far my favorite!
LOL I think Danny's covered every other way and agree and love 'em all !!

Oh maybe forgot figgie pizza and figs stuffed w/ goat cheese  and a drop of balsamic , wrapped in proscuitto and baked !

Cairo, Egypt 1987
Had roasted quail for dinner, could not determine what the lingering flavor was, it was a hint, an almost something but it eluded me all thru dinner, finally had to ask, each quail had a fresh fig stuffed in the cavity for roasting but removed before serving.  Memorable dinner.

I was eating some yummy missions from a neighbors tree yesterday. The crows had been getting the ones at the top of the tree, and there was crud scattered all over everything. If the fig was absolutely clean, I'd eat it as is after tearing in half to look. If it was dirty looking or felt grimey on the outside, I'd just eat the guts. The ones I brought home I rinsed before eating and ate the whole thing.

I agree with those who say right off the tree.  Another favorite is on a whole grain cracker with cream cheese and a tiny bit of hot peppers.  The hot and sweet make a good contrast.  You can't go wrong with fresh figs.

This is an oldie, but a goodie!  This is how you eat a fig!

Vito

That guy is awesome.  He loves his figs.

This thread makes me hungry. What recipe do you use for a fig cheese ball?

Fresh off the tree, can't beat it....

Two steps.
Step 1. Pick
Step 2. Eat

right off the tree, try to get the whole thing in one bite.. so i don't have to find out what's inside..

Thank you God for giving me 2 of the most perfect tools on this planet earth;
two human hands (including the great thumb-function) and a mouth....

Right off the tree. Sometimes I see angels circling if really good. Wish I had enough to make a dish with them. I've had store bought fig preserves with some good cheese on bruschetta.

I like  to eat the insides first.

lol, what is that video...fig porn?

like berries, they never make far from the plant, and are always eaten fresh (for now)

Fresh, or I stuff with blue cheese, wrap it with prosuitto, and grill. Yum appetizers

1 Make sure spouse is out of sight
2 Walk to fig trees
3 Pick and eat figs
4 Walk back inside the house, acting if nothing has happened.

Just kidding! She swears that's what I do, however I do share them with her.

I inhale them like a Red Volitan Lionfish.

That's a classic Vito! I'm gonna start eating my figs that way!
