How do you take and pack suckers?

Someone is interested in one of my fig trees and I want to ship him some suckers rather than cuttings.  How do I take them, as in how much dirt and roots do I try to keep.  Also, how do I pack them for shipping?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Nothing special needed.

Just wrap the roots with some newspapers and add a bit of water. Then you just use whatever kind of bag you have and seal it. To finish, use whatever kind of envelope you have...

ccc1  --  I would like to try the suckers if they are the Bugasota variant. What I do if the suckers are packed closed is I used a hacksaw & pushed it into the dirt & saw away when plant is dormant. Don't need many roots. Fig trees can take a lot of abuse. Early this year I send a 4" sucker with 3 one inch root to my brother. It arrived 10 days later & now the sucker is more than 12 inches tall. You can write me privately  & my email is in my profile. I will pay for postage or if you prefer we can have a one on one trade.Thanks.

Yeah, it's the Bugasota variant, and I think I can manage to hold you one.  I'll email you sometime after the trees go dormant.  Which should be soon.

As for you offer to trade...  I'd love to do a trade, but, unfortunately, I couldn't get clearance from the tower (wife) to squeeze one more fig into our tiny little backyard.  For now, I'll have to settle for sending you one for postage.

Listen to what The_Montreal_fig says. It would work. It worked before, see:

ccc1  --  thanks. I am from B.Columbia, near Vancouver. Please let me know when you are ready to mail & I will remit postage.

Thanks you all for your responses.  I'll dig those little guys up once it goes dormant, wrap them up in newspaper, shove them into a zip-lock bag and envelope.

Some of those suckers still look a bit green this year due to all the rain and cool weather.  Is that going to be a problem?

ccc1: If they are still green there is nothing to worry about.

If you want you could send them now even if they are still not dormant.
