How does one win fig plants???

I've read several posts , ols and new, referring to plants they won.   What is that about?

Thanks, Soni

won on ebay...im a Ebay snipping waiting to the last 10 seconds to cast my bid. I swoop in betting $100 sometimes out bidding whoever else before they can punch in a higher bid. works 99% of the time

There have also been opportunities on the forum. I won with the Super Bowl game that Rafed put together. And people will periodically raffle/auction plants for the benefit of the Figs4Fun Foundation.

Win is the term used but for me the one's I've gotten off Ebay I feel as though I worked hard for them and just paid more than anyone else was willing to at the time of the auction.

I won Rafed's Super Bowl contest also!  And I agree!  If you are an active forum member, opportunities come up in the forum,  where someone will make a game of it.  You win?  Great!!

Good luck~

@americanfigboy, So it's YOU who keeps beating me out of the figs on eBay!! LOL!!

Smartiza now you know he has a $100.00 dollar limit.  LOL

...  Duh!...   I forgot that higest bidder "wins "   I was thinking you were winning figs in drawings or some thing els.

@charitup. I can't compete with that. Lol! Buying figs on eBay is like a sport!!

SoniSoni I'm thinking of having a contest.  I noticed you would like to have any of the Bordeauxs.  I have several Violette de Bordeaux in cup and just starting to pot up.  If they make it and you can find your way to my house I will declare you a winner and give you one.

and you can pm me for directions I am Georgia zone 7.

Just got outbid by a dollar in the last minute. Phone was working so slow I couldn't get another bid in....

Yes I guess that I'm busted now. LOL Normally I wouldn't bid more than $100 but I wanted a nero 600m so I went over and won in the last 5 seconds. I'm sure people hate me...

Did you outbid me on the unk. Iraqi too?

Not hate, more like fig envy. LOL!

Yeah, you can just about always count on someone outbidding you in the last few seconds!  Just happened to me tonight too.  Ebay seems like a better place from which to sell figs than buy them.

Goss,

Is it possible for others to play to win? :-P I'm still quite new to the hobby, so unfortunately I don't have anything to trade yet.

Best,
Tamar

Jarrett, so you were the $107 Nero 600M buyer?  I was in early on that one and then just watched it sail away.  :)

GregMartin, I agree. I think I'm going to give up on eBay..

No no the Nero 600m was that only fig I did that to. I needed a fig to survive the winter up here in WA state. Also I've tracking this plant down for some time. Even emailing the owner of the planet fig website to see where he got his from. Old Camera lens are my usual target.

The key to winning is the last 10 seconds, not 5 days out. If you bid 5 days out that only let the people watching know that someone else is there. Set you budget and a backup limit. I only watch and stay hidden, for those last 10 seconds is key. If you bid $97 I will throw out $120 making sure I beat you by $1 winning at $98. Everyone else who bids in between that will get the "you've been outbid" message. It takes about 3 seconds to change a bid, 3 seconds wasted plus lag. I know the maximum I will be willing to spend before I back out. I'm 23 years old, single, don't drink, smoke, party, or club. So I have money to spend on other things.

The bad side is if that one person gets lucky and bid $119 then I will be forced to pay $120 when I win. Trust me I learned my lesson with that one. I tried bidding $91 on a lens and typed in $9100 by mistake. Normally I would have still won by $1, but someone else messed up too and typed in $9099. what are the chances huh!? Lucky the seller understood the mistake and canceled the bid.

Tamar maybe not for the Violette de Bordeaux but I do have some other varieties.  So yes you can play too.  Not going to be here this weekend.  Have to go to memorial service for my uncle so out of town.  Maybe next week though.

rafed I have tried to get RdB several times on ebay.  It always beats me.  I seen one go for eighty something dollars so I bid $89 for a while so they start going for ninety something.  Then I decide to bid $100.00 for them then they go over a hundred.  Then I get disgusted and quit bidding and I see them for sixty something dollars.  Same thing with Black Madiera.  Now I just don't bid on them and am waiting for them to get a lot cheaper.  It is really helpful for my practicing patience.

Sorry Goss

I tried to edit the post and accidentally deleted it.
Just so you know.

When I sell fig trees on ebay I have them set up with buy it now and best offer. Sold a one gal VdB for 45 bucks that way.

Goss hang in there and be an active member and I'm sure you will get a RdB. I had only a few fig trees when I joined back in nov now I have areond 20 kinds, and my collection is still growing. Though its growng only due to the nature of the wonderful people on this forum.

I will be paying it forward as much as I can come winter ;-)

Goss,

My condolences on your uncle. I am in no hurry, so whenever you (and the figs) are ready works for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get your RdB soon!

Hey guys not trying for a pity party here for the RdB.  I enjoy the hunt or battle on Ebay with the best of them just sometimes a little frustrated with the war.  But thanks for all the support.

Tamar contact me next week if you would like and we can see if I have anything available you would like.
