Hi everybody. I was wondering and I hope I don't sound like a yo-yo for asking, but how important is dormancy with a fig tree? The last few years I have been bringing my fig trees inside the basement for the winter. We get horrible winters here in Pennsylvania, I didn't want to risk it. The conditions in the cellar are very warm because we have a wood burner , I would say it easily tops 89 degrees down there during the day during the winter. Also, I do grow caper bushes there so I have large sun lamps to keep them producing, it is almost like a sunny day in Florida everyday. When I bring my figs inside, they just continue to grow larger and produce. Is this a good practice? I don't have a garage to store them in where it would be cooler or darker. If dormancy is important how do i force them to dormant themselves in the conditions above? My brother lives in Hawaii and the temperature stays the same all the time, How would someone in that climate keep a fig tree and force it to dormancy? Well thanks for any help. Thanks fignut for your info and your nice words. Ciao Ciao, Maggie
