How long should roots be?

I have started my fig cuttings from the instructions that I got from this forum and some others (I am so excited). My cuttings in the bag have started roots, how long should they be before I plant them in the clear containers?

Also some are not progressing as fast as others, so do I take the ones farther along and put them into the clear containers and continuing doing this as they get longer roots or do I wait and put them in the clear containers all at the same time.

Thanks for all of the instructions and photos that help neewbes like myself.

I usually wait until I have at least 3 roots that are a minimum of 1/4 of an inch.  Others may disagree.  Pot up each one on an individual basis.  No reason to pot them all up at the same time.

I follow Ed's line of logic.  I never pot prior to seeing little roots formed, and will not transfer until either a) I have 2-3 a least 1/4" long or b) I have one single root which is exceeding 1/2"-3/4" in length, so that just taking it out of the bag would risk breaking it off.

If you are not already aware, new roots break very easily and should be treated as if they're made of glass.  Once they get longer than 1/2", they become quite easy to break off.

I agree with advice from both above.
I emphasize what ejp3 mentioned of not waiting for the slow rooting cuttings and just root the ones that meet the suggested requirements above. Some people leave the rooted cuttings in baggie for a longer time after getting good roots on cuttings but I did not have good experience with delaying to pot in rooting mix because the roots start to become brown and weak and the cutting may not generate new roots.

All good advice.
