how long until you get figs?

Hi!  I'm a fairly new member but have been learning from the forum and have rooted some cuttings successfully and some are now in 1 gallon pots!  I know I should be patient, but I was just curious how long it generally takes for the new fig trees to first bear fruit?

Thanks to everyone who posts and to Jon for this awesome forum!  :)  I'm now addicted to growing figs too!!

Hi there Eun,
in my zone i can get ripe figs from plant in its second full season growing them in containers and more ripe figs as plant matures.
Some in warmer climates have gotten ripe ones in first season and im sure they will post.

Enjoy tho fun of growing the plant the first year after rooting or air-layering instead of anticipating fruit.  Occasionally you may be surprised with a fruit the first year but this does not happen in every climate zone (some have short summers). However, you should expect some fruit the second year and expect some to ripen if it is a good summer with good amount of hear and your plants are getting good sun. AS the plant matures you should expect better fruit loads and relatively more ripe figs (& more fun).
Depending on the fig variety, some will have breba (first crop) on previous years wood ripening sometimes in early summer (depending on location) and a second crop (main crop) on the current year wood that matures later in the summer or early fall (depending on location).
Later when your plants are in good shape and producing fruits, you may need to read on this forum about branch "pinching" in relation to fruit ripening.
Good luck.

Some might have fruit even this season, but it is best to let the little plants put energy into roots and shoots in their first season.

Your in Zone 7.  It may be possible.  Im in zone 9b and my one plant, LSU gold, last year, got 2 figs;  It was its first year.  This year Im anticipating a few dozen.  On my other tree, I plucked the figs as they started so the tree would grow tall.  This year it should produce well.

I'm in zone 7 and have gotten figs the first year quite a bit.  It depends on the variety and I think the genetic potential of the individual cutting. If you have a vigorous rooter, and take a nice mature cutting, It will incease  the chances of it happening.  But as others before have said it may be detrimental in the long run, but I don't care.  I just want figs.

Thanks everyone!  I don't know if I'll have the heart to pluck them little figs off early to help it grow more... but it will be exciting to see if there will be some.  I'm in zone 7 and it's already in the upper 80's here, so we'll see:).
