How much sun....

I have limited space in my yard... I was wondering how little sun figs need to produce? I've seen pics of trees in almost full shade that seem to be producing(leggy though). My few in ground plants get like 6 hours of direct sun but they are new as of last year so I dunno how they will do yet, I wanna keep a few potted plants in my driveway but that part of my yard get later afternoon sun and only a few hours.

more the merrier.

Hi Figfan203,
They can produce in full shadow ... but don't expect to get them sweety - as for any fruit, no sun leads you to bland watery fruits .
Normally 6 hours of sun should be enough to get good quality fruit as long as you prune the tree so that some sun gets to the fruits as well .
Then it depends what you call shadow. A fig tree can get some shadow from another tree ( regularly trained peach tree shadow in my garden) and this hasn't been a problem.
There is always some light passing through the peach tree .
If you're referring to the shadow of a building ... well 6 hours of sun if somewhere in between 10h00 to 19h00 should be ok .

Thanks bullet... That was deep

yeah.. i try, like fortune cookies.

edit: in all seriousness, like jds said above, you can have figs in shade with less than ideal sun exposure. i think my St. Rita and Niagara Black have gotten maybe 4 hrs of sun everyday last yr. they produced awesome figs. but not all figs are same. some will do better with less sun. but if you can find the most sunny spot, that is the best place. don't forget to water them adequately. lack of water can drop figs in some varieties, and most trees will curl their leaves if there isn't enough water.
