How to contact Dan the LSU fig man

I tried his blog but it tells me I need an invitation and to contact the author but gives no reference on how to contact.

I want to purchast true O'Rourke, Smith and Hollier fig plants.

That guy isn't gonna sell you anything. He's only an researcher not a retailer. He's made that clear many times although he has sold some cuttings a few years ago on eBay. He claims he donates the money. Great collection and smart.

Brian is 100% correct.

I have read several posts on the confusion surrounding the O'rourke. I under what has been written and debated.

I would like to know where to get the true O'rouke plant.

I thought Dan would be able to tell me where to go buy it.

I got mine from the feild myself. I live 40 minites away. I took cuttings from all the trees in november
so no fruit yet. Lsu tiger growns by far the fastest ! O'rourkie very slow others are doing well. Smith from what i understand is becnel not lsu. I have it to along with becnel italian black and dwarf black

Here a few pics

Last I saw, he left because he didn't want to be in a moderated forum.

Is this the guy that slams people in his forum & thinks he started lsu figs himself

Lol king fig

A post of his disappeared in the other forum. He thought he was being censored, became upset and left. The moderator insisted it was a computer glitch. He seems very knowledgeable about figs, especially for his area. It's a shame.

Talk to cajonb. Very knowledgeable on lsu figs and has the real deal hard to find lsu figs as well as many other lsu figs. Brian is his name
He is a member here. like me were are both from louisiana. I lived here for 46 years.

Knowing what I know now about LSU fig trees and growing them in Charlotte, I'd say there plenty others better tasting and hardier than O'Rourke.  I've got 3 "true" O'Rourkes and about a dozen LSU Improved Celeste.  Both are totally different---LSU IC being ten times better tasting and 10 times hardier!  If I had known this about O'Rourke, I would never have purchased mine years ago!  Although Dan is knowledgeable about LSU figs, if I lived in that area, I would just visit the university and talk to CajunB (here) or Dr Johnson at the univeersity.  I'm not bad mouthing Dan or anyone else, just stating my opinion.  I have a nice colletion of LSU figs and I love them all the same.  Some do better in my climate than others.

If temps drop down to 30 degrees and if your O'rourke is outside you'd better place it inside because that dude will almost die to the ground!  And the same goes for LSU Thibideaux, LSU 156, & LSU White Honey, LSU Everbearing.  In my cliimate they are not that hardy.  In Lousianna, they probably grow exceptional!  Contact Jon from Almost Eden.  He's located in Lousianna and sell more than what's on his website.

Well said snag. Lsu thibodeaux grows like a snail for me lsu tiger is a monster in just a year. Improved celeste awsome. Tiger & improved celeste would be good selection for a must have. Others a grate too just not productive fast growers. I have alot of them and these are my favorite. Just because others are rare doesn't mean there better.

Dennis and Richard, sounds like solid advice. Thanks.

I second the advice to talk with CajunB.  He has most if not all of the LSU varities and knows a LOT about there backgrounds and the people who helped care and develop them.  I have bought a good number from him and enjoy the knowledge I have learned from him as much as the plants I buy from him.  You wont go wrong.  I live in the same area as well.

Sometimes you have to stop trying to go down a street if you know it is a dead end, look for another path to your goal.

By the way, Dan is very, very knowledgeable of Louisiana figs and I have read every word of his that I have found, but he is not "The LSU Fig Man".  In my opinion, that title is not appropriate.

I have a lot of the LSU figs, got them all from other people.

Many places sell the said LSU varieties -- Encanto Farms, Almost Eden, Petals, James Robin, Durio Nursery and I would check
with private F4F members like Bass, Herman2, CajubB, Harvey, Marius etc.

I am so glad ai found this comment. I'm in the N Georgia mountains zone 7A, so it looks like I should for get about O'Rourke and go for the IC (Improved Celeste? ). Is there a recommended source?

How does Native Black do in Charlotte?

I have Dan's email address and I've sent him an email with a question from time to time and I can barely get an answer and I asked about getting to his blog and I barely got a reply, he basically said his blog was just for him. And as was mentioned before he won't sell anything because he is a researcher and not a collector. If you didn't find an o'rourke yet I know plenty of us have it and wouldn't mind sharing.
