How to Root Cuttings

I did two searches on this site, "How to Root Cuttings" and "Root Cuttings".
Both came up with Zero.
I thought I would find a lots on the subject on this site. In the past I have rooted Cotton Wood. They were easy. Just stick them in a glass of water. I tried that way last year with some fig cuttings and just got rotten sticks for my effort. I've picked up from this site that I should put them in pots in some type of medium. Half of the ones from my first try I did put in pots. Same results, rotten sticks.  Any one got a link to detailed instructions for some one that has no idea what they are doing? Need a fail proof system. Or at least as close to fail proof as it can get.
O'Yeah, I've also rooted carrot tops and potatoes>LOL

try different keyword.. like rooting. root is just little to unspecific. or you can try googling it.

Skip a space and put whatever search term that you like on the end.

Welcome to the forum!  I hope you soon are no longer figless.

Since you are helping new members, how do you start a new post?  I don't get it, but would like to, as I may have some questions or comments to make without hijacking someone's post.

BTW  I realy enjoy all the trials on rooting methods and mediums.  It's all very interesting to me and shows just how dedicated all of you are to a great hobby!

Carl, you will have a couple to play with.  some are on their way!

FIGPIT, to start a new topic, make sure you are on Page 1, look to the bottom right hand side for NEW TOPIC, select that option and you are on your way to creating your own very brand new topic, subject and all. Enjoy.

...and upper right side as well, New topic .

I suggest you use my method: (1) buy lots of valuable cuttings, (2) have them sent to my address, (3) watch them grow! I'll post photos for you and save you the work... ;)

If you insist on doing it all yourself, I have been using this method with pretty good success: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=6692131

For some reason, it doesn't seem to work very well with fat cuttings, though I don't know if the cuttings were just flawed or if the method was to blame.  I usually get roots showing at the bottom of the pot in 10-20 days and in 6-12 weeks they are ready to move into gallon pots.
