How's everyones cuttings coming along?

Thought I would share :)

Devslgro: Thank you for the tour.  Very nice setup.

Thanks for the tour, always cool to see what other member are doing and how,you have quite the set up going, your wife is a very understanding woman,if I did this my wife would have her bags packed lol.Glad to see you are having a lot of success with your rooting, you are going to need some space for all those new varieties!

Not too much space needed ;) I'll keep one or two of each type! Right now we are living on 3/4 acre, so still plenty of space outside. Because we are renting I can't fill the yard like Mike does, but I can still add a few more yet. I'm glad that you both enjoyed the video. Haroon, my wife says that she really appreciated your comments

I love the spoon ids!

These are all single node cuttings?!?! Unbelievable. Bravo!

Please expand on your methods. I have a few very small cuttings that I just started in only perlite and I'm very nervous as they're not easily replaced.

Both Devlsgro and AZFifig, your cuttings look great!

nice!!!

I still want to know what method Justin is using to grow all those single nodes so successfully..... some kind of "fig steroid"? The common wisdom is that small cuttings give up and die....Clearly Justin, you weren't listening. What are you doing man?

AZFig Congrats great job!!! let us know your procedure.

Devlsgro rooting method is the method I used last season and still do with some cuttings, but if you want to make some of your cutting stretch a little further this way works pretty good. I just take a single node cutting and lay it horizontaly just under soil line (preferably with bud sticking through soil line) I use promix hp soil, bottom heat with no thermostat, 32 ounce cups, 600 watt metal halide set for 14 hours on, 10 hours off, I mist top of soil once a day with a yard sprayer. I've had a few of my Black Madeira shoot out roots in three weeks with this method. My garage temperature fluctuates from 70 to 80 degrees, but they seem to like it more towards 80 degrees so next season I will probably add a wall mounted gas heater to my garage. One other thing worth noting, I think exposing the bud to light is part of the key to making the cutting start to wake up and to trigger root development.

Thanks for this Justin. I'm going to try this....soon.

2 Questions:

Any chance you can post a closeup of the single node cutting in the mix (before it leaf's out) ? I'd like to see how it's positioned.

You mist with a garden sprayer daily. How much water are we talking? What sort of sprayer? I'd be doing this indoors given our winters here. So I want to use the closest possible alternative.

Much appreciated!

Just a light spray of water, probably a couple tablespoons worth until you see roots, then you can soak it pretty good. I use a pump up yard sprayer just because a hand held spray bottle just isn't big enough.

Pump sprayer.....OK . I thought you were talking garden hose. This is awesome! I can't wait to get more cuttings to try this. I've tried single nodes once but I treated them like regular cuttings and didn't have much luck.

Up close your mix even looks more 'woody" than I thought it would....Nice!

You've been very accommodating. I hate to ask. How do you trim the single nodes? cut just above the node with some stem below?

Thanks Justin! This is very cool!

It works better with bigger diameter cuttings and I try to cut them in the center between two nodes, some of them almost touch the sides of the cup.

i'll be trying this! thanks!

So I was going to post pics, but apparently this site is out of storage so..

Just found signs of root growth. Only a few cutting have yet to do anything. The barerooted plants that I recieved are already swelling at there buds. I have a heating pad to encourage root growth. My cuttngs are in clear bins and the sides are constantly moist. I have double sleeved my cuttings, fist in clear cups then in solid cups. This is so I can check root growth without exposing the new roots to light.

OK
Couldnt hold out anymore
Here's a bit of my setup
The third picture is a month and a half Godfather and anyone who received The Godfather also got a Unknown Brooklyn Dark JP ( a delicious dark fig from Midwood Brooklyn) which is the second photo. I also used the postimage picture hosting for the first time. Thanks Toronto Joe for the tutorial. Takes a bit longer but works nicely.

Looking good! I have a few budding out right now that have been idle for two months. Love to see activity!

So, i had a dozen or so cuttings from a tree someone had cut up to throw out
not important enough to bring inside for the frost.

they look bad here, but after loosing a few leaves
they are pulling through.
(pic is 2 weeks old after the frost)

These are cuttings i did want to keep.
while they didnt get any frost
the one on the right lost a young leaf
and the other young leaf is drooping down.

i cant tell how wet the soil is
i have some mulch on top.
i am thinking maybe its too wet ?

Coop, your plants look really great.  Just a question - what are the q-tips for that I see in the pots?
