How's X'mas & New Yr Wishes Coming Along ?

Well, so far I have good news for cuttings in terms of varieties I plan to have. The only challenges left is for them to arrive & to root successfully. My biggest challenge last season was Col de dame Noir where none survive after initial rooting. They root easy but the transplant from 32oz cup to 1 gal pot kill all the rooted CdDN. I hope this season would be good news for CdDN.

Thanks to all who helped in my request for specific cuttings.

Hey Paul sorry to hear about your troubles with CDDN and hope 2011 is your year to root one succesfully.

I have rooted allot of cuttings and even then I still screw up from time to time by overwatering them all it takes is one time and rott is almost certain.

I am extremely happy with my new additions for the 2011 season and cant wait for summer to start.

Not very well, Paully.
I had wished a nice moderate winter at Christmas and New Year and what we got are long deep freeze periods so far.

I hope summer will be fine.

Ottawan  --  I am looking forward to Spring. Its been raining lots here and some of my layered plants in my patio room are figging out without leaves. I
have pinched the figs off. So main crop ripening for some would be most welcome.

Nelson  --  I hope to have minimal failures this season as I have some real gem's. I am going to start rooting in late March/early April to maximize the
warmer days ahead and to be less bothered by those nasty flying F. gnats . Anyway, I will keep you guys posted as to what I have rooted successfully this
season. I sure appreciate this forum for helping me to have a Happy smile. Only problem is I like almost all my figs and its hard to decide which ones I need
to get rid off to make more room.

Paul,

My most recent experiment would have been a success had the people living in my household have been as dedicated as I am.

Went to my baggie method midway and transplanted from bag to cup about twenty cuttings last night.

Still a long way to go.

Well, I hit it off on the right foot. I put 7 cuttings to root and now have 7 trees in cups. I'm floored on how easy those were. Since then I added more cutting to starting medium, some in sphagnum like the first 7, some in Jon type bags. None of these show roots yet but it should be soon. Keeping my fingers crossed. As soon as some of these strike roots I will be starting a third round using what medium seemed to have started the most. Good luck to all into the new season.

I must add that none of this would have been possible with the help of many generous friends here who share time, knowledge and cuttings.
Thanks,
"gene"
