My Lampiera figs are so huge they are starting to burst out of their skin. They are over 7in in circumference and they are not ripe yet!!



The bigger one did not burst out yet but probably it will if it plumps up any more

Those are huge figs. I just picked my last 4 Hardy chicagos and I dont think all 4 combined are as big as one of yours.

This baby grew another 1/4in in a day !!!

I hope they're spectacular!  Good job with the organza.  Smell it twice per day to be sure it isn't starting to spoil.

Once they split the danger of spoiling is very real. The splitting is a result of too much moisture. I'm not familiar with Lampiera but it does look to be exceptionally large. Good luck!

Is the unit of measure on your tape in inches?

Yesterday when visiting Prusch Park in San Jose another member and I saw the Lampiera there and the fruits were not extremely large but larger than most other fig fruits there.  I'm not sure the trees are receiving any irrigation or adequate irrigation as some trees were in pretty bad shape.  Still, this was a pretty nice fig there.

Yeah, probably.  It was raining too much and I was rushing with my phone and more concerned about getting it back in my pocket because of the rain.  Still good enough to get a general idea.

I looked at the pictures several times before asking....I can see your tape was made in Taiwan, but I don't see the scale indicated.  I am from Isleton, in the delta.  I'm a member of the CRFG chapter there in San Jose and usually go there each year.  I went there yesterday to check out the figs and help confirm that the tree there that is supposedly Black Ischia is, in fact, something else.

Do you have a scale to weigh your fig when picked?  So far, 184-15, Yellow Long Neck, and Sequoia are my largest figs.

Hey Harvey, that's a better picture than all of the pics I took with my eyes on Saturday. Mine are far more out of focus at this point than yours is:)

Of all the varieties Harvey and I tormented (ultimately) our mouths with a few days ago, I was most surprised by Lampiera and Igo. There are plenty of other great figs at Prusch that generally met my expectations, but these two stood out to me considering the lack of buzz they get on fig forums. Very much worth growing if what we tasted is indicative of their normal quality.

It's possible that the figs we ate were majorly impacted by the Prusch terroir, particularly what appeared to be little to no irrigation, but many of the fig varieties we sampled, including plenty I've tasted in other places, my own tree included, were much more intensely flavored than the norm. The level of acidity in many of the figs was particularly noteworthy. (That's a plus in my book). I wonder if those who have tasted Lampiera or Igo can comment on their impressions of those figs.

I decided to cut one of the figs and try it. Unfortunately was not ripe enough to have an opinion on taste. I did weigh it before I cut it. See the pictures
