Human chimera

So here's a news story about a human chimera.

http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/t/story?id=2315693&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F
After reading this, now I better understand what a chimera is.

So how did panache become a chimera?

Very interesting. Thanks.

It seems that in plants a chimera occurs when some cells in the apical bud do mutate and thus don't have the DNA true to type.
If those cells are the top one of the apical bud - the ones that produce the growth, then the new branch does not carry the same DNA as the main stem and thus is called a chimera .

I had read, that when grafting, you could create a chimera.
The idea is to cut two buds and put them halves together. If the new bud is able to live, it will carry half the DNA of each parent, thus resulting in a new plant.
Apparently some are able to do that ?!?
I read as well that some chimeras/mutations where created with radiations sent to the terminal cells ...
Who created panache and how ? Those are the questions now !
Or it may be called a chimera if it appeared on a standard green leafed tree - so the new stem did not carry the same DNA as the main plant .

That is a fantastic story. The thing that really bothers me about it is, she was applying for welfare for herself and 3 children and then turned around and had a fourth! I'm really tired of supporting other peoples kids!

What I don't get is if she absorbed her twin's DNA, wouldn't she still share much of her twin's genetics to where they couldn't rule out she was at least related. Also, does the government really spend money on DNA testing for welfare? This story sounds pretty strange.

Yes, the government does spend money for DNA for welfare. I believe it is mostly to find the fathers to try and get some of their money back. Doesn't work from what I've seen. Good luck squeezing cash out of a turnip.
And we're all paying for it!

being a parent is a full time job.. and uncle sam is more and more willing to pay for it, and some small segment of our society is taking full advantage of it. i don't mind paying the their kids.. but i do mind paying for their cells phones, jewelries, cars, ipod/pad...

It is a full time job Pete. We had 5 and didn't ask anyone else to support us. If you want to have kids you need to take care of your responsibilities and don't come to me with your hand out.

I had my kids, took care of my responsibilities and don't think I should have to pay for other peoples!

If people knew they were going to have to provide for their own offspring I think they would be a lot more thoughtful before having them.

i have been working since i was 12 or so. every sunday i would get up at 4am and go assemble ny times sunday edition. still to this day, i refuse to touch news paper.

what is right thing to do is not what is easy thing to do. and some will find easy way out. and our government is making it easier by the day. unlike our previous generation, chances are good i won't even have what i put into the system to help me out once i'm too old to stare at the computer screens.

Never heard that story before hmm interesting.

I think it is interesting that people who grow their own food tend to be more fiscally conservative.  I have similar views and wonder if it is because we acknowledge that the "fruits" of our labor are through hard work. (no pun intended).  Many of us grow many different things not just figs.  Maybe the act of growing food is part of a sense of self reliance that many people have become disconnected from.  I admit that I had the same though when they said she was having a fourth child while not being able to support the three she already had.

I think it's based in the rearing as well. Parents anymore have a hard time teaching their children personal responsibility when they hear in school that "you have choices" "you get to decide" blah blah.
My kids had 2 choices, do it my way or you're gonna get it! They all have college degrees and are hard working contributing members of society.

I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea either, my husband isn't a CEO or anything close and hard choices had to be made while the kids were growing up. Dawn is excellent shampoo when needs be. But, we managed to get them to church and kept them all involved in sports and insisted on education. I also made it clear as day that any procreating on their part was NOT my responsibility or anyone elses and they better be ready to take care of their own children.

You guys know we had our first grandchild last June and my daughter is 29. The boys will be giving us some soon I'm sure but they are all married and established in their chosen careers.

Okay, I'm sorry, I'm ranting now and WAY off topic but this is one of my biggest pet peeves!
