It seems that in plants a chimera occurs when some cells in the apical bud do mutate and thus don't have the DNA true to type.
If those cells are the top one of the apical bud - the ones that produce the growth, then the new branch does not carry the same DNA as the main stem and thus is called a chimera .
I had read, that when grafting, you could create a chimera.
The idea is to cut two buds and put them halves together. If the new bud is able to live, it will carry half the DNA of each parent, thus resulting in a new plant.
Apparently some are able to do that ?!?
I read as well that some chimeras/mutations where created with radiations sent to the terminal cells ...
Who created panache and how ? Those are the questions now !
Or it may be called a chimera if it appeared on a standard green leafed tree - so the new stem did not carry the same DNA as the main plant .
