I posted my owl face on a cd in another thread. I also suggest that you have sacrificial fig trees. Protect your prize trees with fences or netting tying brightly colored tassels to fences and netting to avoid animals getting trapped in fences and netting. Then take some older trees, unidentified trees or cuttings and leaving them fully exposed for the pest. The animals will always feed on exposed items over those that are protected.

Plastic predators sometimes work, and fox and coyote urine are good solutions. Finally if all else fails a live trap called a have a heart trap and then releasing the animals in an unpopulated area or open field. There are better ways and less dangerous ways of protecting crops rather than a kill method. Great post Soni.

i heard birds love mulberry. some people plant mulberry to distract birds from other fruits. but mulberry might cause other issue. bird poop after eating mulberry can stain side walk, cars, house sidings..

  Thanks Pete.   l Great minds think alike. :-)  I just requested white mulberry cuttings from UCDavis.  I hope the birds are attracted to the white mulberries !!   I told UCDavis why i wanted those cuttings.. I hope to hear from them.    

The mulberries will be done fruiting long before the figs are ripening won't they?  

Wills here in Illinois the Illinois everbearing mulberry should ripen thru August .
In 2012 i was eating them off some low hanging branches from a very large tree in Sept on labor day weekend .
Hardy here even in our coldest winters which the ones i know of have seen 23 below zero Fahrenheit and the trees were there at the time.
The record is 27 below in January 1985 .

I don't know if birds are going to be attracted to white mulberries . They pass the green figs by and go for the darker varieties. 

They get most of my blueberries and raspberries and then they want the figs !

We had white mulberries up north that ripened in june and the birds went nuts over them.

thanks for the information.  Here the mulberries are done by May long before the figs ripen.   I guess they might work as a deterrent.or call more birds to the yard lol not sure which fruit they would prefer.

it takes only one mistake from a dumb bird for rest of them to find out light figs are also a good snack.

Any deterrent method will likely only last for a short period of time before the animals or birds realize there are no threats. Predator urine will only be effective for short periods for species like raccoon or opossum if they work at all. The urine will definitely have no effect on birds as they can't smell for the most part.

Your best bet for lasting success is to prevent access through the use of electric fencing and or bird netting.

Your other option would be to plant enough figs so that there is enough for everyone.
