I give up

Here are figs off of my Vista tree. The biggest one with the fat neck is the one I jokingly called Purple Brunswick in an earlier post. The one up and to the left is a normal size Vista fig and the one down are to the right is typical of almost every fruit this year. They are 2/3 times bigger than normal. I have no idea what is dfferent this year. Wish I coudld make them that size every season.

Hi Jon  -  Today I pick a Negronne that measures  about 3 inches length wise. Inspite of its length, it only weighs about 28g. Sure it tasted great. I know this year I loaded about 2 inches of compost to its pot & have fertilized it for 60 days with general purpose miracle gro. The ripe figs were never this long before. I have Negronne from 3 different source.

Caprified figs in the past have been the same size, shape and color that they normally are, on this tree.

It just illustrates the variable nature of figs, and part of why it is so hard to identify them. This is one day, one tree, and there are half a dozen sizes and shapes, some smaller than normal, some larger, some longer, some squatter, one with a fat neck, etc. This is in line with the Lemon fig pix I posted earlier, which were 3 times as large this year, and completely different tasting.

I'm not really giving up, just scratching my head a little as I watch the figs "unfold" this season. What will they do next?
