I got a fig!

After my pups tore up my potted trees in search of moles I thought I wouldn't get any figs.

But if a fresh cutting was growing vigorously I let it keep one fig as long as it maintained that growth.  A Galbun I got from Jon in Feb or Mar had a fig very early that up until today hadn't changed at all.  Yesterday it hung stiffly out and I was wondering if it would ever change.  Today it was limp and misshapen and I thought the inside had decayed.  Au contraire! I remembered just in the nick of time to get a photo.

It was actually very good.  Jammy, sweet, without a lot of nuance.  But for a 6 month old plant it was phenomenal!  There are a few more on other plants that might make it as well.   :)

Ohhhhh cool!!!!

Jon... you got mail :-)

That is a wild-looking fig, Bob. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yes I am so happy for you bob, that is one unique "different@ looking fig. Purple/blue violet flesh. Sounds like you were relieved and satisfied with its performance :-)

Bob, what variety is the fig?

Galbun.  Here's Jon's photo.  Maybe mine was more ripe?  I certainly left it on the tree until it began to shrivel.

Galbun (which I believe is actually spelled Gulbun, a Condit hybrid).

The inside is so pretty!  Purple - My favorite color;)

Looks like I have another to add to the list.

Happy you got at least one fig from the destruction.  So those are the puppies that did the deed!  Very cute!  I hope everything is growing back for you!

Perhaps the pups (beautiful creatures) were just getting back at you for making them were funny hats and other colorful decorations. ;)

Nice fig too. I have a newly rooted Gulbun (to whom it may concern, thanks) and look forward to trying 'growing it up.'

The pups only tore up the larger, established trees.  The new cuttings are in a different place that is shaded by a large tree in the afternoon when it's really hot.  Those trees needed to be torn up anyway.  They now are covered in branches whereas before they had too much apical dominance.  Their timing was bad as they knocked all the figs off  :)

Looks really tasty, the problem I have with my dog is constant peeing on the VdB but not the Colisanti Dark, everything else is just on the side of the pots.

Bob, the difference in appearance of the ripe fruit is likely the result of immaturity or caprification (or both).

wow that's a beautifull color combination.. can wait till my new collection(Galbun) have fruits.. just curious about the leaf pattern.. is it the same as Conardia/Lyndurst White (They both have the same leaf Pattern).. thx guys n Gbu

Good for you Bob

Way to go!

Bob, did you have that tree indoors or outside? potted? Would this be another variety that grows for our bad weather? Looks amazing.

That was last year in SW OR.  This year, like so many others it has no figs.  I think I messed up the soil when I up potted everything this year.  Jon has cuttings and possibly trees.  Can't hurt to try it.
