I got cuttings!

I don't know the handle mifigs4fun (ebay handle) goes by here but thank you. The cuttings arrived in exellant shape and better than described. A couple extras thrown in and the cuttings were mostly 5 and 6 node cuttings. They are bagged and I can't wait to see initials. :)

I believe it is Zergas and you might want to do a search. I have never dealt with this person so will reserve my opinion.

It doesn't look so good now. I guess I wait and see now what surprises I have been sent.

The heck with waiting. He claims to have a 7 day money back guarantee. I'll try to take him up on it. I have also contacted Ebay for help.

David,
do a search useing Z and M screen names on both forums , here is link to one
eBay fig offerings - Fig Forum - GardenWeb

Useing the search feature on this forum in upper right corner type in Zergas and Mifigs4fun and you will see many comments.

The way i see it in the future on these forums there will be many questions like i got this from "Z" OR ""M" but it does not look like ...............

Done the search, not real happy at the moment.

The funny thing about zergas is that he bids on cuttings and plants too.  Wouldn't it be great if someone scammed him?  I thought about it but I am not going to ruin my name just to get him.  But it has crossed my mind.

He has replied to my request for a refund. He says he will take the cuttings back and refund my money. I can only hope he follows through.

Curious to know what cuttings were ordered.
Sal

Italian 258
Smith
Bagalhouce
Tena
O'Rourke
LSU Gold
Giant Celeste
Black Marseilles
Col de Dama Dark

Nine varieties with 26 total cuttings.

Almost all my cuttings from this source turns out to be Brunswick, especially Smith, Sal's, Petite Negri, Ital 258, LSU Tiger. I will be watching others. I am sure glad you posted Dave.

Not to defend anyone, but I too have purchased items from the individual in question and while I cannot say with 100% certainty that I received what I ordered, in comparing the leaves (as variable as they can be) and fruit (though I didn't get ripened fruit, explained below) I believe that I likely received what I ordered.

I do label each plant I grow (figs and others included) with tags which contain species, variety, year received and source (where I got it).  I have not gotten ripe fruit off of the two plants I got from him (but the weather this summer didn't translate into ripe fruit from most of my figs) so I cannot say further at this point.

Perhaps I am just a too nice person, but I feel sorry for anyone involved in our shared passion (figs) who can't participate in the sharing which we have here and in the GW forum.

Warrior, best of luck with your cuttings, who knows you may end up with much of what you were looking for even given the source.  I can tell you that if he had success rooting cuttings he had received he likely has all those varieties and more.  Given the access he has had to such good varieties, its unlikely that he has kept many/any poor performing varieties.

I bought cuttings and plants from him and nothing is true to variety yet. I'll be surprised if you get a refund. He never has answered any of my emails. I personally think that the excellent packaging is just par of the scam.

Hi David

I can understand how you feel
But as your first post indicated you where feeling pretty good
the seller even sent you extra

If it was me I would start the cuttings them and see what comes of it you may be surprised  with the results and if not as you said it was a lesson

Its to bad people seem to go out of there way to scam someone for a couple of dollars but I don't like to paint all with the same brush there are still decent folks out there

Final say is I would give it the benefit of the doubt

I think someone has to test the water occasionally just to see if things have changed.  A person can change their name and they can change their business practice.  It is more common you will find people like "zergas" who simply change their name, but keep their business practice the same.  It is possible though, once your business practice is easily recognized, to find you after the name change, which could be a reason this person would change.

I would say if this person is getting you a bundle like that, it could be worth it, if they turn out to be true to what they are.  But nothing scares me more than buying or receiving cuttings which are mislabelled, it just adds to the confusion which is already bad enough...

In my humble opinion,

I just would not waste my time waiting to see if they could be worth it plus several years of time to see if they are true to type bought especially after whats been done in the past.

Your last sentence is so very true about adding to the confusion as there have been a few cases here already about a person buying from said ebayer and several years later its not what its said to be,  me being one of them as well and plant was properly destroyed following year so as not to ever trade such a plant and posted here comparing pictures.
Its just that there are too many folks here on this forum who can be fully trusted in there dealings .

Martin,  I see your point of view and agree with you more than myself ;)

I guess it is always the curious deal-seeker in me that hopes and wishes for something incredible.

Its understandable to have hope. Even when experience tells you something different. My point is, sounds like your human.

Jason, nothing wrong with that !
I rnjoy lionel model trains and have many of them its addicting similar to fig plants even more so for me as there easier to store.  : )
Also i always look for that incredible deal and recently thought i had one with a lionel 736 engine for only 102.00 . Course it was not accurately described and i had to return it and all is well.
But there is always hope for something else popping up  with a good buy wether its model trains or fig plants, with model trains im coming near the end of what i seek except the ones i simply cannot afford and fig plants are well perhaps 1 or 2 more i can find room for !

I have a model train upstairs from when I was a kid.  If I can remember where I put it after my parents gave it to me, I'll shoot you a PM and let you know.  I'm never going to use it and have no fond memories of it.  Maybe someone like you would enjoy it.
