I graft 7 in 1

I graft 7 types on one of my in ground fig tree , will the tree be ok? did i do anything wrong? what should I expect in the future?

As long as it's at least a few years old you should be fine.  Sounds like a great idea.  Hope all those branches survive and give you lots of fruit.

the tree is 4 years old and it never been covered , if everything goes good , i will cover it for 2 years until the branches grow a little strong

I guess each type will ripe on there on time

That's an awesome idea. Please keep us posted. Pictures would be good too.

i want to make a colorful cocktail fig tree

I'd like to see some photos too.

If only one variety is infected with FMV then they all will get it, if more than one variety is infected a new cocktail of separate viruses will be formed and the symptoms could get worse than they were originally. My advice is to also root cuttings of each (including the rootstock) in order to have uninfected material to propagate new plants.

what is FMV and how can it appear on a healthy tree? (talking in general)
what are the signs?

also , lets say it turned to be health, can it get that FMV in the future?

does anyone have any photos of FMV infected tree?

Cool. What cultivar is the root stock? Or did I miss that?

the main root stock is Calamata White

I'm going to try this in a couple of years when my LSU Purple is bigger. Keep us posted on how it goes. :)

It is called Fig Mosaic Virus or Fig Mosaic Disease. The symptoms are mottled and or deformed leaves and sometimes also bad spots on the fruit. Growth can be stunted and fruit production reduced. There are several different viruses that act together to produce symptoms although it is poorly understood. You may never see symptoms on a mature tree but cuttings may show it, usually they grow out of it. Some varieties are thought to be resistant, at least one (Alma) is immune because it is a hybrid or Ficus palmata, which itself is immune. There are only 2 ways that are proven to spread the viruses that I have read of; the mite Aceria ficus, and grafting.

i did not know that a mosaic fig it's a disease? I've seen so many post here with ppl asking for mosaic figs. Can FMV me born out of a cutting ? or the mother tree is the carrier? does anyone know how FMV was formed?

I'm hoping, in a few years, to create a cocktail tree for specific areas of the country.  I'd like a San Diego, CA version and a Tampa, FL version with varieties which do well in each area to send to family and friends living in each location.

Question - is there a really fast growing/hopefully hardy fig that can be used as the base?  Since the grafts will be for the figs, the base doesn't need to be tasty on its own - just vigorous.  Thoughts?

I'd like to get two or three of the 'donor' trees going on the deck.

Andrew
