So, I just joined.  I am a fig nut.  I have been scouring the f4f website for information, and finally decided with my latest round of rooting cuttings that I should probably setup an account.

I'm over at GW with the same username.  I was recently surprised to see that other people were as fig-nutty as myself at the fig forum over there.  This fig thing is a recent obsession for me, starting when I bought my first BT fig at a local nursery (~2.5yrs ago), and really ignited with the recent discovery of a several-decade old fig tree at a local Voiture hall in my neighborhood that is certainly soon to be demolished - I took under a dozen cuttings and plan to plant all over the neighborhood!  I am hoping the tree is still there in spring - I have no clue what variety it is, but ... we will see!

I just wanted to chime in, make my presence known, and let you all know that I thoroughly enjoy the dialog here and feel at home already ;)

Welcome. There is always a new fig to conquer and something new to learn and enjoy.

Just stay with the figs and every thing will be ok. 

what ever you do, dont get into bamboo too.  Im not sure what to do this next summer.

Welcome to the forum, like with jello, there's always room. This is a great site for novice and veteran alike. It's a for fun site and I hope it stays that way. Let us know what you're doing with figs and we love pictures. Post your successes and failures and ask all the questions you like. Just be prepared to get a variety of answers, since we are all from different areas of the country and do things a little differently. Oh, did I mentioned that we like pictures. Regarding your wish list, you can request cuttings (for the nominal cost of shipping) from UC Davis--if you make the request before the end of the month. Some folks on f4f have have voiced concern about UCD's stock (fig mosaic virus), but others have said FMV is pretty much ubiquitous and hasn't given them much problem. I have no experience on the subject, but am willing to take the risk. At any rate, the price is right, you can find many varieties, and you can help add to the knowledge of what grows well in different areas.

Thanks everyone, and thanks to the kind two folks that already emailed with offers to help out.  The graciousness is amazing.  I was hoping the title of this post and the content would be found lightly in humor based on other on-goings in the past week or so, and it looks like it was taken as such :)

@TucsonKen, currently have an order in with UCD for 8 of the varieties in my wish list, hoping that I manage to get at least 5-6 of them.  We shall see.  Been talking to some other growers that are somewhat local to me I've been chatting with about getting other cuttings.  Gotta start somewhere...

I am dying for late spring to be here already so I can figure out what this unidentified fig is at the abandoned voiture hall around the corner!  Hopefully something amazing - if they kept it around as long as it was .... well, I default to Dan from Louisiana.  I hear stories like his about these amazing unnamed/undiscovered/undocumented figs folks carry everywhere with them through the decades...one can always hope.
