I have been had!

Some years ago, before I was a Forum member, I bought two trees from Lowoe's: a Brown Turkey and a Black Mission. They turned out to be both Brown Turkey.

About 3 or 4 years ago, I ordered a Magnolia, a Kadota and a Peter's Honey from tyty (I went back and found my receipt, after I started having doubts because I had learned enough from this Forum) and guess what? I now got a Magnolia, what seems to be a Celeste was tagged as Peter"s Honey and a Brown Turkey.

Unfortunately I have shared some cutting of that fake Peter's Honey (the fruit color was said to be different in every climate) and I am sorry for it. I not only have added to the confusion by doing this but some Members will feel cheated.
Tyty gave a good description of the variety but the tag was handwritten: I guess the just write the name of the ordered variety no matter what it really is! And I did not know any better

Now all my figs come from reputable nurseries or Forum members. I have learned my lesson.

Thanks for letting us know, Sal.  Wasn't your fault.  So if I'm reading this right, the Peter's Honey is Celeste?  I'll retag mine.

Ah that's a shame. It's Ironic, you are innocent and feel regret, but the dishonorable people who deliberately deceive, have no conscience, no ethics.
It's fraud and also theft of the time and effort that goes into raising a plant.  What goes around, comes around. it may come back to bite them in the butt!

Most of the large commercial outlets like Lowes often get figs which are mislabeled, guess the nurseries growing them don't really know what they have. TYTY is notorious for selling mislabeled stuff, more of a joke than a nursery, but as a newbie when you purchased you wouldn't have known this  Always best to purchase from established sellers of good reputation. there are several threads indicating who those sellers are, also a list on Yuku.

i'm sorry to hear of your bad  experience sal. i only buy from sellers someone here recommends, and if i can't find them mentioned, i just post and ask these guys their opinions. so far, i've received nothing but healthy properly named trees.

Great of U to come forward regarding the mislabeled trees. Most of us have run into mislabeled
varieties. We had one experience this year with a very reputable nursery regarding goose berries.
They were suppose to be yellow but turned out red. Brought it to the owner's attention and true
enough a quick check on his existing stocks, the labeled Hinnomaki Yellow goose berry was bearing
red berries. He immediately removed all marked H.Yellow plants.

Thanks for your understanding and I wish to add that those of you who received LSU purple cuttings from me, those originated from Rolling River.
It has been a lesson  and now before I buy anything online, I do my homework.
This Forum has thought me a lot. Without it, I might have gone for years never realizing I had been had and believing I had a Peter's Honey.
Many thanks to members who made the effort to explain and posted pictures and to those who helped compiling the "Recommended Nursery List" which I am certain will help many fig lovers avoid the negative experience I have had.

PS: Those who received Peter's Honey cutting from me, please mark them as UNKNOWN (since they come from an unreliable source).
