I have some cuttings I clipped today from a local unknown. Rosemary’s New York Ave Purple located in Lyndhurst NJ. Rosemary tells me her Dad planted it “about” 50 years ago. They just sold the house, moving to Arizona on the 1st . She tells me the new owners are cutting the tree down. When I visited last August the tree was covered with birds so I didn’t get any really ripe figs but the ones I had were pretty good. Right now I’m doing 3 requests you pay postage, USA/Paypal only.
If I don’t reply to your message you didn’t make it.

Look at that big, brownish fig in the lower left! Love the way the skin cracks.

Looks like a Mt. Etna type fig. People used to call these figs Italian Everbearing back in the day. Now they go by many different names. Hardy Chicago is a strain. They are all over the NJ, NYC, LI area. The most common fig brought over from Sicily by all the immigrants. It is a very nice fig. It is cold hardy. But in a hot, long season climate it really performs.

I'm from Indonesia. If I can go home next year, I really hope I can visit some of our fellow Indonesian member. Interesting looking figs. I wonder if Indonesian tropical climate plays role to the coloration of the fruits.

I have an extra unknown for postage, 16 oz cup, Paypal only. Collected by Chris in TN. Comes with a story.“Hendersonville Green. The story goes that this 80 yr old woman's Grandfather brought a small tree over from Italy. He kept the tree Alive with water from his canteen while traveling by boat from Italy to New York. One of his cuttings was planted 40 years ago on the side of her house and the rest is history. The figs are large green with a strawberry colored pulp.”

The plant I received was tiny and didn’t look like a fig. Took forever to get moving and then it grew pretty good but did not put out any figs. Paypal only - $6 + USPS shipping (07073) + $1.15 for the box + paypal fee (2.9% + .30)

KK, I may be wrong but that looks like a Blue Ischia plant which originally did come from tissue culture. The jury is still out as to what kind of a fruit it will produce. Mine should be fruiting this year. It did make brebas but they all dropped. Fingers crossed that it will have great tasting figs. Below is what is pictured on Amazon...

KK, I work in Moonachie. I see lots of homes around here with very old trees growing without any winter protection. It's amazing when your a Figgie you notice all the trees growing... Question, how many years in general does it take before these locals gave up protecting their trees. Is their a timeframe in years before a well established tree doesn't need protection? I started growing figs about 6 years ago with some generous members sending cuttings. I have three different varieties growing well in ground the last 4 years. This was the first winter I didn't trim and wrap the trees. Guess what, I don't think they did well with old man winter. Lots of dead brown but I'm hoping they come to life within the next month. I have two container trees that have leafed out already as backup. What varieties are you growing?
