got my first marseilles black fig today.   i was walking back to the house, was going to slice and take a pic.  all of a sudden something came over me before i made it 10 steps away.  i tore it in half with my thumbs.  beautiful red insides!   i sucked it down in about a half second.  wow!  i'm in love :).

Thanks Mike.  Good to hear further confirmation that the MBVS truly is an outstanding variety.

I have started a lot of these, to share with friends and family, and I am planting a fig hedge.  It will have lots of varieties, but several MBVS fig trees for fresh eating and for making fig jam.

I am making some more fig jam today, but with Hardy Chicagos and Marseilles.

I am using Herman's recipe, just figs, sugar, and lemon, and that is all, no added pectin or anything else.  It is outstanding.

Mike can you describe its taste .

martin, it was very sweet and good :).  all i can tell you is i could have sucked down a hundred at one sitting.  as soon as it hit my mouth it was gone.  i'll have to take my time tasting next go around.  

i'll take pics of some of the many more to come.  it's pretty well covered with figs.

I am so jealous my marseilles vs black is just from a cutting this year I have a hard time waiting. I have alot of figs on young plants and can't wait hoping some ripen.. I have a marylane that I have culled all the embryos to two figs trying to assure that I get at least one ripe fig from this tree.

i look at myself in the mirror now, and i realize i am a fig crackhead.  the shame!

Mike :If this is your first time fruitting,then the tree is not really 100percent able to make best Flavor and taste.
Mine was geting better after the forth year.
But it is acceptable from the first year fruits.

even my first year cuttings are all making figs now, with the exception of lsu hollier and alma.  i do think those are starting to put tiny figs out at the top, and i should get a crop.  some of my 3 node cuttings have grown to semi-respectable bushes this year.  3 months left in the growing season and they're all cranking right along :).
