i have one bubbled envelope left...

so i decided to use it. so, i'm going to prune my trees just a little more than i wanted.

US members only. i'm sending to 1 member 2 cuttings of my 3 very first fig trees. that's total of 6 cuttings.

tell me why you want these cuttings.

they are...

2 VdB (Gene H./Paradise Nursery)
2 Kathleen's Black (Gene H.)
2 Paradiso Gene (Gene H.)

The cuttings will be about pencil thick and will have at least 3 nodes. will not be long as i would like them to be. but they should still root. will be cut on 11/30/12.

the member will be selected on 11/29/12. it will ship on 12/01/12.

no PM and no email regarding this post please.

Edit: to those who i have promised trade. please do not worry. i'm not sending out your trade agreements. i do not cut and store my cuttings. i cut them as i send them out. i have "marked" the branches that i'll cut for trade i have agreed on and i'll honor my words.

Because I don't have any of them

I want them because I'm a figaholic and I want to grow them and pass them on when I can please please Pete I'm interested in the kb and the pg

PS ill pay the postage

A great offer!  Rock on!

I love this forum!

nice of you pete - you are the man

because i will ask nicely. May I please be the lucky recipient of those fantastic cuttings of yours?
all kidding aside, i have something to prove to my father inlaw. he has a tendency to laugh at me whenever i plan on growing anything.
laughed at me when he saw my square foot vegetable garden, laughed at me when i started raising chickens. and just recently he laughed at me when he saw some of my fig trees that were rooted earlier this year and to boot, he tells me that i will never get any figs from those 1 foot tall sticks. i've got a score to settle.....!!!!!!

Pete it's great, but I have VDB and KB and a promise of Paradiso Gene so I'm good. Curious to see who gets them from you though.

barry, i have something better for you in spring.. lol

I have only recently joined this forum but I think offers and threads as this are crap. Sorry I feel that way but it just brings out the worst in all of us. Most of us on here have the means and resources to obtain what we want without begging. If this is what I can expect in the future I will just let it go and be satisfied with the few very commom varieties that has satisfied many generations where I live.
Grover

grover,

thank you for expressing your opinion, i value all the inputs from all forum members. this is for fun and those who do not wish to participate has their rights not to. if you feel this post is degrading, i'm truly sorry for the way this post has made you feel. i'm sure all the members who has posted so far are not "begging" or "pleading" but posting why they want the cuttings. also you have noticed that one of the member actually nominated other member who richly deserves the cuttings.

i fully understand that members have mean of getting their own cuttings by purchasing what they wish, and i do agree that is a good way to find the cultivar they want. and the offers i have made are not rare varieties. but some members are not willing to reach out to individual member for cuttings or chance purchasing from ebay or other sources.

since i do not have limitless supply of cuttings and do not wish to show favoritism by picking out members in random, i tend to give offers on the forum and send out my cuttings on "first come, first serve" base. this time i thought it might be better to send all my cuttings to one member to limit my shipping cost. i do not sell cuttings or plants, i do not ask for shipping from the members.

i will continue offering the cuttings on the forum in future as i have done since before you join this forum unless jon ask me to stop doing so in future.

best regards,
pete

Since I have been here, Pete has been generous with his cuttings. My Kathleen's Black is from him, and he did not even request postage. He can give away cuttings any way he wants, and people can participate or not. This offering seems to have been made in the spirit of fun, and those requesting them seem to be taking it that way. If I didn't already have the three in question, I'd be trying to think up something clever myself. Or maybe I would just offer Pete one of the cats. :)

Carry on.

Rock on Pete!  You had an amazing generous offer here, and I hope you disregard Grover's post.  I'm seeing red here, and shouldn't comment, but he is not a long time member like you, and his feelings do not express those of this forum!  I hope Rafed doesn't see his post.  He'll be harsher than I!

You deserve the best, and you are correct that not everybody is proactive in obtaining cuttings.  Many are shy and don't have the means of others.  I've been in sales my whole life, and I know "You don't ask, you don't get!"  Easy for me.  Not for others, but you made it easy!

Bless you, and I really hope someone comes up with your wish list!!

I am pretty new to this forum and I love the different ways members
have found to share their plants. Guessing names for a new unknown
plant or expressing why you truly want a certain plant. I am a believer
in the term team building in the work place and I feel this type of activity
brings most forum members closer together as a group since we are
unable to meet in person other than small groups. I thank Pete for this
opportunity and Kerry and others in the past.

i think it brings the genuiness of whomever wants them. If this become a trend- it would make things more worthy than they actually are. Once my sister was walking in a mall in S.P.(Brazil, and filled out a question for a lottery plot of land - not sure what they requested, similar to the question posted here). She won the land - and likely it will be my land, when I go back to live there.    I love some of the answers -  I am super happy with my cuttings from the last round. I am sure who wins here will as happy.  You rock, Pete! I don't even have a return address to thank you for your kindness. Please pinch me, in what world are we living?  Oh the fig-world!

Hey Pete keep up the good work I soon will be able to share cuttings as well once my trees are more established ....And Figfinatic if you need any cuttings for the twins just let me know I can get you at least 4 unknowns and a sals corleone just say the word and there yours to give to the kids .Hmmmm maybe when I give my cuttings away I should ask all of you who I shouldn't give them two it would probably make it easier

I would love to get these cuttings! I just became addicted to figs this summer and was lucky enough to score a great deal on craigslist ($50 per mature potted plant). After tasting the figs off those trees I would love to have other varieties that are just as good or better. I have the room and can't wait to have a bunch of trees producing figs for family and friends.  I'll be sharing those and any other cuttings I get with friends, family and the members of this forum.

P.S. I'll be offering up cuttings from the trees I have but I don't know which is what and will need help ID'ing the trees when next season comes around... I was told the ones I bought are Pingo Del Mel, Portugal Dwarf, Celeste, Mission (or Black mission) and Marseilles. I'll post up a new thread for those of you willing to receive some unknowns.

edited to add.... and I'm Korean by association!! My wife is Korean and I think I remember reading one of your posts earlier where you said you are Korean....give the cuttings to the cute Korean girls in my avatar!!

LMBO!!! that last bit just added for a little humor...hope no one takes it the wrong way. I come to this forum and leave happy, in a better mood than when I came. I think Grasa hit the nail on the head in his last two sentences...this fig world...thanks to all who make this forum what it is!!! I hope to become a contributing part of it!!

Pingo de Mel= drop of honey is the Kadota fig! indeed a good one!

i've been a member here for a month and i'm thrown back by the generosity of the people on this site. truely amazing!!!!

Tony,
Thats awesome that you're offering cuttings for the twins! if you don't mind, or anyone else for that matter, i would like to join Tony and offer some cuttings for the twins also. I will have Italian Honey & a unknown Portuguese variety that was brought here back in the early 70's from St. Michael Island in the Azores by an old friend of the family.

I guess it is now time for me to leave this forum, no reason to explain why as I believe each may realize why.
