Thanks to DJM I now have a Osborn Prolific and a Yugoslavian Black. These are just rooted and I have potted them up for plantiing out later ths year. All of my other figs are fully awake and growing like crazy. The non Winter of 2012/2013 took no casulties.I also bought a Col de Dame Blanc from Richard Watts in CA. I had another CDD but sadly it did not make it. Living in the deep south I decided to forego all the steps normally taken to nurture the juvenile fig to a plantable size. Instead I just planted the baby right out in the middle of my fig area and told it to grow. That was just about a month ago and grow it has. Not so much in height but it now has seven leaves where it had only one to start.I did the same thing with a Green Ischia and a Conadria. All are out in full sun and seem to be loving it. I'll know in a few months if I'm the top ten fig killer in the East. But I don't think so. I'm thinking that I've been killing my figs with kindness so a little tough love was in order. I'm certainly not recommending anyone else do this especially if you live north of the Gulf Coast. If this works well I will have several others to plant out including the Osborn Prolific and Yugoslavian Black. Thanks for reading my ramblings.
Congratulations. Hope you get to try a fig or 2.
That cdd noir I have you died?
I feel the same as you. Full sun!!!!!!!!! good luck and keep us posted.Zone 8South West TX
Remind me on next Wednesday am ill set another air layer for you
Noss,If he does it. I never got the air layers he promised me in a trade. Instead of Maltese Falcon, JH Adriatic and Vasilika Sika plants I got cuttings of stuff I didn't want (like Sweet George). I did get one single plant but it came from BLB not the_celt after many promises that it was already sent.
Congratulations!! Good luck with your new babies. I'm a "nervous" grower too, but as members here have said, sometimes the more you fuss over your figs, the more things seems to go wrong, I'm trying not to be a nervous new mother, lol.
Sue, I know exactly how you feel. Good luck with yours. Michael, I appreciate your concern but Celt doesn't owe me anything. I got this fig from him from a contest someone else won and donated to me. I appreciate what he did and he did get it to me. I'm sure he'll get me the next one as he says. Talk to him maybe there was a misunderstanding.
