I just got back from Bill's.. All I can say is what an incredible person. He has Beautiful trees. He also helped me pick out some nice trees.

So I bought a Black Spanish,Melanzana and Fig called King.. I said Desert King and he said no just King.. Does anyone have have any info or pictures of the King?

This is the only picture I can find. Im sorry, I couldnt help it. The f4f varieties page lists King as Desert King and also White King. Not sure if your King is different than DK though.

King is same as Desert King. I had one of his melanzanas, it was a breba only fig.

Thanks guys.

Nice picture ;)

I was wondering about Melanzana from last summer as none of the figs ripened. @johnnyq627, are the brebas any good? Guess I should find out next year!

Tim they were good. I got three the first year and none the second year. I gave my tree to Shailesh, so hopefully he has better luck with it than I did. For me, such a large tree with only a few breba if you're lucky wasn't worth it with so many other varieties out there.

So after speaking with Bill I picked up a bag of lime.. The problem is I bought the wrong one.. Bill uses the Granular I bought the Pelletized

I guess I'll keep looking.

That will work just fine!

Ok I wasn't sure if it would work.. I thought it would break down. to fast. What Ratio to Pro-Mix should I use? Can I also use this to top dress the soil?

I left my notes at Bills :(

I have yet to find a mix that doesn't work with figs. I tend to use a mix of peat base like pro mix, perlite, shredded pine bark, compost, with a couple of cups of lime and a couple of caps of osmocote. Experiment and have fun!

Whichever I have handy :) I would think in the spring the 14-14-14 would be best as we want strong new growth for our figs to grow on. I bought a bunch on sale at Lowes so that is what I will use. I also water with miracle grow. I will likely switch that to flower booster once I begin pinching, although I honestly dont think it makes much of a difference with figs.
