I love working with my figs

I'm in the process of re-organizing the figs in front (messy job), and planning where they will go in the landscape. I was planning on putting some on the slope in the first picture, after the shrubs are cut back or removed. Seeing Marius' yard with figs re-inforced that plan.

In the foreground of that pic you can see a few of my figs started from cuttings this past spring in 2 gallon to 5 gallon pots. Some of the other plants in larger pots are blueberries. Unfortunately they have already claimed the best spots, but I'm not going to toss them. ;)

We have a large front drive that gets very warm. I love growing things in pots there. Many of the young figs will be grow up on the drive. They probably won't go into much of a dormancy this winter.

It's all in a confused state out there right now, but here are some other miscellaneous fig pictures. Some in larger pots, others recently transplanted out of bands and into gallons, and even some baby figs on young trees. I started by nipping those off, but I think I'll let some stay. The plants are growing quite well, so I don't think bearing a fig or 3 should set them back that much.

I love that they grow so fast. You can see significant results the first year! I didn't think I'd have to move so many up into larger containers so soon! Good thing I totally enjoy working with them. :)

They are so rewarding.

Nice pictures Gina!  When is the fig fest?

Good luck with your plans!

Suzi

Gina...

Your collection and landscape are truly beautiful.  How lucky you are to have so many choices, and such perfect fig-growing weather.

Growing fig trees can be a real joy.  No other plants have given me so much satisfaction, relaxation, and rewards that are delicious.  And, yes....very quick results.

May you always find growing your figs one of the delights of gardening.

Frank

Lol, Suzi. Fig fest? I wish. Maybe next year.

Thanks Frank. Yes, I do have many choices where to plant figs. Which is good since I seem to be growing so many. Most spots other than on the driveway are on slopes, but that will mean good drainage in our clay soil.

It's great fun. :)

Fig fest?? Can I come?? I only have 2 White Genoa figs ripening though :p
