Hi the friends, I need your help to decide 1 Fig to be planted for in ground. I have planted in ground so far: Hardy Chicago Green Greek Improve Celeste Dalmatie Marseilles vs Black And I have room to plant one more but I'm very skeptical of which type should I plant. I'm looking for standing taste, sweet and hardy (which will require no covering in the far future) for zone 6b-7 Queens NY. This is what I have: Genovis Nero Vasilika Sika Smith Negrone VdB RDB Italian Red & Green Adreano Gota De Mel Kathleen's Black Valle Negra I will really appreciate if you answer this one, you will be great help. Hi there, I am in the same area and my Improved Celeste died to the ground this winter. It was protected. So, I would keep it as a contained plant.

I would keep a potted copy of any in ground tree that I value. That said, out of your list, in my opinion RDB or Valle Negra would have the best combination of cold hardiness and taste.

How big is the space? Less than 8 ft I think you should plant Valle Negra, more than 8ft RdB. __________________ 7a, DE

Improved Celeste would need to be very well protected for winter and kept in a pot and the Smith isn't even very winter-hardy down here in Louisiana, in the ground and unsheltered. I love the flavor of the improved Celeste and my trees are very productive, at a young age. They are more of an ever-bearing fig down here, but I don't know how they would be up there, but they start to put on figs early. RDB at least in part gained it's popularity for reliable cold hardiness. I'd pair that with a light fig, perhaps Green Greek. I don't grow GG so don't know how hardy it is, so also recommend Latarolla
