Yesterday, I went to Costco and found these.  Not sure what they are, but I can tell you they were not all ripe and the ones that were, were just sweet and not much more.  Price was $6.99 for 2lbs. And not worth it at any price.

I was hoping that these were satisfy my craving for figs, but nope!

That's exactly how I felt when I tried the Kadota of this company from other market here locally...
I rinsed them and refrigerated them to to spoil...next day the aroma had come back a little but nowhere near to fresh fig aroma. But , just you say, they are sweet, just nothing like a fresh fog taste...go figure.

That's too bad.  Imagine all the people that buy them and think that's what a fig tastes like... at least you know better!

What a bummer!  Here I have been looking everywhere local but no figs to be found other than the dried Black Mission.  Now if I do find some I won't want to try them!  Thanks for your sacrifice.  Guess I just have to wait for my own figs maybe next year. :( 

Buying these California-imported figs from a store is always hit and miss. Last weekend, I bought 2 of them (Brown Turkey and Black Mission). Black Mission had a semi decent flavor and taste while Brown Turkey tasted like crap as it was not ripe at all.

Yes, it is a shame that what is marketed as figs to the public is a shadow of what truly ripe figs can be. Figs unfortunately are fragile fruit that are best eaten right off the tree at peak ripeness, a lot like most fruit, but let me not discourage anyone from trying to find a good fig that has been mass marketed. You never know what you may find, perhaps a gem, somewhere? This was to give a heads up to anyone looking at the figs currently at Costco, that buyer beware is in effect.

I have been losing ail my brebas to raccoons but still resisted buying a pack of dozen Kadota for $10 because of the price. I was telling myself that they could not have been ripe either.  Instead I opted for a pack of 5 mangoes of a known good variety.

Quiet obvious to an individual with reading skills and comprehension of a 5 year old
these are TWO DIFFERENT PACKAGES AND COMPANIES.
Just wanted to clarify this misinformation for fellow forum members.

Aaron, I ask nicely for you take this example into consideration.
If you are unable to see simple differences with the printed English language,
and you misinterpret them to be the same, and declare them to be so,
with authority no less.
Then maybe give some consideration to how you interpret other disciplines,
such as horticulture, where the information is not printed in black and white,
and far more difficult to decipher.

Yet you freely  "identify" and name  figs with these same keen observational skills.

Hungryjack, thanks for pointing out an obvious error on Aaron's posting. I too would like to know on his original post where his figs were "ripe to perfection", but here they were like mine? Hmmmm....

I'll be darn... Jack you are right about the packaging, I stand corrected...damn!  LOL
