I came to U.S. at 4 years old, we went back every year. I also went back to italia and stayed for 8 years when I was younger, I remember to write to Italy then, took about 2 weeks to deliver to my family in the hometown, we were very rural, roads were dirt going halfway to Roma. I write to Italy about once a week to someone these days, and it seems the letters get there in 3-4 days each time. Actually, the relatives and friends get the letters quicker than when i send them to inlaws or people here in the U.S. I wonder sometimes about the post office, but I do hope you can get your cuttings nelson intact. Are the borders stricter in Canada/U.S. border as apposed to Europe or other places importing or exporting to America. I don't find it a problem to receive figs from foreign sources. I can't say anymore about this, I hope you have good luck soon. What could be problematic is Hermans predicament. Especially when legalities are involved. I wish you Herman and you the best of luck. Buona Fortuna!!!!!!
