I Think my Fig Is Happy To See Me.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Can someone help identify my " Erect " fig?
I bought the plant as an unknown " Huge White Fig " from a person on Long Island N.Y. The tree is in it's first year and it's a monster.
measures 6 foot tall, with a one inch trunk and huge leaves.
It has grown nearly 3 feet in four months
I also have it's "Brother" an unknown " Huge Brown Fig " tree with the same characteristics
The striking thing about both trees other than it's vigor is it's figs.
All main growth with large figlets with very long, ( 2-2 1/2 inch ) thick stems.
In all cases, the stem is always twice the length of the fig.
The weirdest thing is each tree tops off with a straight up " Erect " fig!
Maybe someone on this forum knows of a saluting Fig?

Nick.

HAHA........I can't help with the ID thing, but I like your sense of Humor!

My BT has produced fruit like that.... But only on 1%-2% of the fruit.

Oh, my! This is a clean, family-friendly fig forum! I am scandalized! Shocking! And you posted PICTURES of it? The nerve!

AnnieBee,

I think oldghost was saying his fig was waving Hi to him, what in the world did you think he meant?

That erect/vertical/perpendicular fig is unusual. I have never seen one grow straight up like that. Thanks for sharing that photo.

Yesssssssssss

Ditto to what Dan said.

Nick,

it is an interesting fig. Have you already taste it? Nobody seems to know what kind it is and it would be very interesting to read your observations about the performance and fig flavor.

If no one can give a specific ID, we should have a name that fig contest.

Here are a few suggestions:

"ficus erectus"

"pocket rocket"

"morning glory"

Morning Glory gets my vote.

Give it some seasons and someone may be able to identify it.

I'm almost afraid to put those things in my mouth.

All of the figs are " Happy"
I love the look on my uncle's face. It's like: what the heck???
I never knew this fig collecting stuff was so stimulating

Nick.

I think it is a Ficus of the Genus Viagraictis.

Never saw ficus "wood" quite like that one. Just what is it you are giving those trees Old Ghost??

Hey Nick is that you in picture ?

Nope it's not me.

I'm MUCH better looking. :)
Besides I'm keeping a safe distance from those things, until I have a better idea of what I'm dealing with.
They seem a little too " Perky " for me.

Nick.
p.s. all puns aside, any idea of what they could be?
I would image that there are not too many types of figs with such a long ahem.. "Neck".

I think your plant might have got a dose of cialis.

Hi oldghost, this has to be the funniest fig post, with everyone having a poker face like statements, thanks, Sergio.

Hope this does not put me on the bad side with some but just had to contribute to this thread.
