i think my season is more or less done.

had something like 1.2" of rain so far today. and all my VdB, Paradiso Gene, and Kathleen's Black are ready to finish ripening in next day or two. so.. this will more or less blow up all my figs.

there are some others, but those three were the main producers. so in a big picture, this yr's at the end for me. i really hope next yr brings better weather.

Pete,

Have you considered covering the pots with plastic to keep the rain water out of the soil?

rafed, thought about it.. but the rain hit me while i was out of house. by the time i was out of supermarket, the rain took down the power at the supermarket, and it already dumped 1". had another flood warning. i mean, i don't mind rain all that much, but this yr was just too much. we had good 1 week, last week, and that was really good on the figs and i enjoyed few very good ones. but there's always next yr, and there are few that still haven't started swelling like Black Madeira and others so i'll still get few figs till nov., but not enjoy it everyday like last yr. main suppliers are done for this yr.

Pete,

I would try to salvage what remains.
It's not too late and you should consider this option tomorrow morning.

Good luck

Rafed, Will you please restock Pete's liquor cabinet? He's sounding a little depressed.
Cover them Pete, cover them. At least for a salvage operation so you don't lose what's left.
You'll get some good figs still.

Tami,

You must have ESP.
Because I have a large liquor collection. Some rare ones in that collection too.

Maybe I should invite Pete over so he can drown his sorrows.

BTW Tami,
Did you hear about the worker that drowned in the brewing kettle at the Guinness brewery?

Absolutely, invite him yesterday. I had no idea you had a collection though, that's funny.
Did the guy in the vat die happy?

I think he did.
Eye witnesses said it was very horrific but did manage to come out a couple times to pee;)

I just saw a forecast of around 48 F for Thursday night here.  It looks like I might be leaving a lot of unripe Negronne on the tree for the first time this year.

LOL Rafed.

I'm really sorry to hear that Tom, it's so early to dip that low.

Guys, buy a ticket for your figs to California, I would be happy to host the best ones :)
We are having dry in 100s summer. Oh, yes, get some rain with you too!

Pete, I am sure you have other better news coming to balance the negatives. There are things that we sometimes have no control.

Hi Pete, cheer up, all might not be lost. Up to last couple days, my VDB figs showed no signs of  getting bigger  ,much less ripening. Today, after several nights of heavy rains, I went back there and saw three ripened VDB figs. The others were still same size as before. With this strange weather, you'll never know what to expect.
