Whats goin on guys? My name is Buddy and up until today I thought I was the only one this crazy about Figs. Had a few trees in my yard in Va Beach a few years back which got the itch started. Since then have moved back to Long Island and just recently aquired a Brooklyn White from a customer and ordered a 4 year old Celeste which showed up yesterday bearing 30 figs on it! I guess thats it for me because now all I do is research growing tips and tricks and wound up stumbling across this great forum which apparently is loaded with people just like me!
Welcome to the Site! Your not alone, I don't about everyone else on this forum but I am crazy for figs as well! Wish you all the luck with your figs!
Thanks, Yea I dont know what it is about them, my girlfriend thinks im nuts because I went from working on engines and hot rods to being crazed over trees with the snap of a finger. Forgot to mention too I also have 7 unknown cuttings which are probably just about ready to move to the next process. They came from an unknown tree at one of my customers homes. They had no clue it was a fig tree and never cared for it properly but this thing was loaded with fruit.
Welcome and congratulations on waking up to reality.
Careful, Buddy, I had about 20 varieties for the past few years but got busy late last year and am up to about 100. Welcome to f4f!
Hello Buddyred, and welcome to the forum...you have come to the right place if you want to learn more about figs, and also communicate with other guys and gals who have the same love for the beautiful fig tree...best of luck with your new trees and cuttings, and have a great growing season.
Think we are all a little crazy about figs here. Martin can't get enough of them lighter figs though. Welcome to the forum.
Welcome Buddy. Yeah we all got bit by the fig bug too.
Welcome. You will know you are a "fig man, walking"....when you don't/won't go on a vacation because you can't find someone to water your trees....when your gal-pal gets jealous...when you can't stop collecting the next, "must have", latest, Figue-du-Jour. The quest for the next fig never stops. We ALL need to have our heads examined.... Why should you be any different? You thought you were the only one....think again! Give in, and enjoy the ride.Frank
WelcomeGood luck with your new to be fruitfull occupation.
It's a lot cheaper than hot rods, guns, knives, fishing, woodworking, model airplanes, diving, antiques, computers, been there done all those, still have lot of stuff, wish I had some of the money, LOLWelcome, we have our own definition of "Normal"
Welcome!Yes,quite a bit cheaper than diving! LOL
We are in the same boat, I came across this great forum a few weeks ago trying to find some info on some new fig trees I bought, I am still a newbie, I have three varieties and wish I had room for more. Between the other fruit trees and fig trees I have no more room in my yard, lol, welcome
One thing you may learn: There is alreays room for one more.Enjoy
Welcome, we're always excited to find another one of us. I know very little but the people on here are amazing and very open to sharing knowledge. I'm embarassed to say how many I have but most of them were gifts from the people here :)I've been on a few forums and this one is absolutely the best!
Welcome to the forum, yes you may get the bug early on and want to try every fig type out there.Word of note dark types is all you need. ; )
Welcome Buddy. As you can see...you're in good company.
it all starts so innocently.. just few trees. then find that there are others.. some taste great, some just looks wonderful.. some so hard to get, have to have one.. and the list goes on and on... welcome to the insanity :)
Thanks to everyone, yeahI can't stop thinking abotu where the next one is going and what it is going to be. That "careful" is much needed as I know I can get outta hand very easily! Its fun though, I had a dicsuccion about this with my mother just earlier. Found it to be kind of funny how hooked I got to it right off the bat, when in the past I could of payed no mind. Thanks again for all the welcoming posts, nice to find a good forum and not one where people immediately contradict everything you say and make you feel unwelcomed.
One of my friends suggested a Chicago Hardy, said once I try it I would not go back to anything else. So this will probably be the next I go for. Any recomendations on where to find good trees from or cuttings? Now that I have ventured into the research a little more I have found some ways to not spend anything close to what I did on my Celeste.
Hi Buddyred, I belong to a group that is trying to distribute hardy figs and I may be able to gift you some Chicago Hardy figlings. Please message me if you are interested.
I sent you a message, not sure if I did it right or not its not showing I sent anything, but yes I am interested, thank you
Hi redbuddy,
