You will have to let us know if the figs are any good..

will do

GRamaley sorry I missed the fig gathering you held work has been crazy lately I've been working 7 days a week and still in the yard till the sun goes down at night. Thank god we had a break this weekend it's much needed and I get to catch up with everyone on the forum. I hope there is another next year I'll be sure to make it if so.

Hi ediblelandscapingsc,
How old is your tree ?
Did you get figs from it ?

Tree is from cuttings this year. Figs are on but have yet to ripen

I don't believe the Ice crystal is winter hardy at all.

I was told it is hardy to -15' f but yet to test it my self. Ijust have cuttings now so it would be a while until I can test that.

Hi,
Ice crystal is cold hardy. It is a late cropper so no problems with late frosts... BUT IT NEEDS THE FIG WASP !
Mine is a slow grower, meaning that the wood is strong and hardens quickly.
Mine popped some 15 figs, kept 5 - 10 yellowed and dried out - bloody wasp, where are you when you're needed... 3 figs are still waiting for Santa Claus I guess...Let me check that today... I'm on my way ...
The two figs that I had, looked like cherries inside, even on the taste - that was my impression at least.
The meat was sort of solid instead of being lots of branches tied together. The seeds were hung in the flesh instead of hanging on the small white branches.
Curious, but still good.

jdsfrance is right without pollination the figs will drop from the tree. Mine seems hardy but not to -15F I had a little dieback at 9F this past winter and it was protected from northerly winds. I'd say people in zone 7a-7b could grow it but to expect die back from time to time. everyone zone 8 and up shouldn't have any issues.

I was a little interested in this kind, but fig wasp here? No No

I wanted to get one of these until I found outthat the needed the wasp. Any way the story is that the ice crystal was offered  on e-bay by none other than peony77. I queried them asking if the plant was self fertile and they responded very simply 'Yes'. I just found them listed on the scammers of e-bay list.

The scammer strikes again! Anyway, i was interseted in ice crystal to, but wasp :/

Needs wasp

I need to correct that on ATP thanks Gordenia

I was the one to add it to the ATP database, It should be changed in a few days.

I guess time will tell, but I'm convinced it's a smyrna type.  It makes a lovely tree regardless so I'm still happy with it.
