ID variety from Azores.

Went to the Azores a few months ago and there were these figs all over, I must have eaten hundreds during my stay. Anyone know what variety it is?

Wow, anazing! Beautiful tree! The figs look deliscious. Nice find. I'll see what opinions are on variety.

This tree was identified as Green Ischia by forum members here.  Looks the same.

Thanks Charlie but I don't think that's it. The neck looks quite different and so does the pulp.

I found a Portuguese from Madeira selling cuttings on eBay who named it Bêbera Branca. Searching the forum I get a few results of a black fig but they are likely to be misidentified since branca means white. I'm guessing what they're calling branca must be Bêbera Preta/ Abebereira (preta = black).

It definitely was a good fig, almost honey like in flavor but not watery honey like some figs I've tried but more like a full creamy honey flavor and consistency. Oh crap, my mouth is already watering and here its 8 months until next fig season...

No opinions on my theory of the tree beeing "Bêbera Branca"?

This Fig looks like portuguese "Côteo" variety. Fig for drying. Would help to know if its San Pedro or Smyrna style. Bêbera Branca is San Pedro while Côteo is Smyrna.

It seems a Pingo de Mel. Compare it with the first row of photos in the first message of this thread. Please note that the cut fig in the photos was quite unripe. The Pingo de Mel has an intense honey flavor.

Regarding Bebera Branca - this fig is quite different. it's an elongated fig. Here's one from my very young tree, quite damaged by the rain, but you can tell the difference:

Bebera Branca is a Common fig (Grupo Comum) and not a San Pedro. And so is Côtio.
Here's the 4 group types used in Portugal:

The kadota is very nice in that picked day before full ripeness And it has a nice refreshing berry taste as the picture shows pink pulp.
Sometimes figs on full ripeness are too sweet.

If u ask me - Brix is not a matter of fig quality.
