Identify these 2 figs?

Does anyone recognize these two different leaves?

Well, they are both seedlings, or more correctly, from the same seedling.

Look close as you move along the branch. This tree started out the season with the deeply lobed, first leaves, and in the middle of last season, changed to the much less lobed, second leaves, and continued the rest of the season with the second leaf style. Forgetting for the moment that it is a seedling, how are you going to identify a tree that can change leaves like that?

Jon:
is there a possibility that the tree was more shaded later in the season?
Thanks,
Stephen V.

Actually, it would have had more sun as it grew taller (about 10' last season).

Jon,
As figs mature, the growth rates slows somewhat and the leaf shape changes.  I'd suggest avoiding using leaves from juvenile growth if you're looking for a standard leaf shape as a marker for a particular variety.

Here are new pix, today. The branch that changed leaf shape is still barely lobed (right), while other branches are all deeply lobed (left).
