Hello all.I am new to the forum but have been watching with some interest. I have always loved figs but until a few months ago I thought they came in green and black (brown/red) I had NO idea they cam in every size shape colour and taste.... and I have to say I am now hooked...I have established a small collection quite quickly of about 20 varieties. We live in the UK but are lucky to have a property in Italy where we are planting our more established trees and hope to have a nice collection there where they should grow more easily outside.Anyway... I have as part of my rapid foggy education discovered that its rather hard to identify figs and lots of people have varieties but don't know what they are... I have 4 such varieties all sourced directly from Turkey and all very different but I have NO IDEA what they are and I was hoping that the more experienced among you could help me identify them.... I have only cuttings of these varieties at the minute but the very nice man who got the plants from Turkey originally has provided me with photos of the fruit so here they are... The 1st and 2nd pictures are the same variety and so are the 3rd and 4th. The 5th and 6th are the final two varieties. On the last please note the size of the figs...they are on a match box so are very small.I really hope you can help me!Many thanksRalph
welcome to the forum. not sure what they are since turkish figs are not widely grown in our area due to lack of fig wasps.
The Red fig in pict #3 is beautiful, wish I could get one. they are all nice but #3 is special to my way of thinking.
Tanks for the replies.None of these varieties of figs require the fig wasp if that helps in identifying them. I was hoping someone would have some suggestions or ideas.
Can anyone help?Thanks in advance.Ralph
It might be helpful to see the leaves from each tree with it's fruit.
Hi,Those varieties are not of some known from me.They do not look like the ones that people from Turkya have in their gardens here.To me this would mean, that whether they require the wasp or they are not cold hardy ...Do you know if they are cold hardy ?
Hi Ralph, welcome to the forum, I'm also from the uk and have family from Italy, and I also bought the cutting you have on the right and I currently got it rooting. I couldn't identify it either so will keep you posted how it goes.
nice looking figs, have no clue what variety they are.Ciao,Giuseppe
