hee hee hee. I've been doing the same thing since mid-July...making the rounds of the Asian markets, farm markets, ShopRite, WholeFoods, or wherever else looks like they might have figs. I've had some yummy Calimyrna, some kadota, black mission. I must say that I much prefer the figs from my own trees, perhaps just for psychological reasons related to personal satisfaction.
Sometimes you buy cuttings...sometimes you buy small trees...sometimes you buy large trees bearing figs...and sometimes you buy ripe figs for immediate satisfaction. It's all good!
