IGO fig? comments?

You're the best, Harvey. The public flogging has officially been put on hold pending Howard's reply.

[FP987-17]

This is my Igo, and certainly matches Todd's description. It isn't any one color, and is a multitude of colors. Varying from yellow to purple and bronze, and . . .

It is listed separately because I do not know that it is descended from either of the Igos at USDA.

Jon, I wouldn't say that matches Todd's description any more than a hundred other figs out there, including the one from Prusch.  And, it's quite clear from Todd's comments that his memory isn't clear on this.

Howard replied and said that the USDA accessions are still in pots and he hopes they will be planted in the new block that's going in.  He didn't have any idea what the real Igo should be like but wants to know as well.

I am a member of four CRFG chapters and see that Terry Harrison is a member of one of them and I'm going to email him for information.  Since Terry obtained Igo from Todd, that should help if he still has it or remembers it well.

The email to Terry bounced so I gave him a call.  Neither he or his wife remember the Igo fig and it is long gone.  It was part of several figs that Todd Kennedy and Todd's friend/partner Pat Schafer had housed there at Terry's place.  Davis folks came and took cuttings and the irrigation system was removed for the fig trees and almost all of them died several years ago.

so.. where does that leave us? have few pints of Guinness and Murphy's.. and listening to pink floyd's "comfortably numb".. i'm pretty numb about the fig names.

Jon,
Are the pictures you posted from the Igo that you acquired from someone in Ga?

I would also like to know your opinion of the taste.

Well, I've spent time chasing other things that ended up being something else other than they were claimed to be before.  When possible, I think it's best to try to eliminate confusion.

At this point, I'd like to check out the potted Igo plants that are being held at Davis to see what I can determine from that.  I'll try to make a visit there next summer since it's just a 45 minute drive.  I believe that DFIC 287 is the most likely sample of the original Igo.  It might be the same as DFIC 168 and/or the tree at Prusch and it might not.
